IACLEA Accreditation Assessment Team Invites Public to Comment
A team of assessors from the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) will arrive on Sunday, April 28 to examine all aspects of the Bucks County Community College Office of Security and Safety’s policy and procedures, management, operation, and support services, Executive Director Dennis McCauley announced today.
Verification by the team that the Office of Security and Safety meets IACLEA’s state-of-the-art standards is part of a voluntary process to gain accreditation – a highly prized recognition of campus public safety professional excellence, McCauley said.
Members of the campus community, agency employees and the public are invited to offer comments by calling 215-968-8389 on Monday, April 29 between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. All calls will be answered by the IACLEA assessment team.
Telephone comments must address the department’s ability to comply with IACLEA’s standards. The IACLEA Accreditation Standards Manual is available for review on the IACLEA website.
Anyone wishing to submit written comments about the Office of Security and Safety’s ability to comply with the standards for accreditation may email them to jmurphy@iaclea.org.
The Office of Security and Safety is required to comply with 150 professional standards in order to achieve accredited status, Director McCauley said. “Accreditation is a challenging process for any campus safety organization,” he added. “Hard work and a great deal of preparation are required to meet IACLEA’s demanding professional standards. When a campus safety organization achieves accredited status, students and their parents as well as faculty and employees of the institution can take assurance in the knowledge that best practices in the field of campus safety are consistently being followed.”
Assistant Director of Security & Safety Brian Schaubhut serves as accreditation manager for the Office of Security & Safety. Policy Specialist Elizabeth Webb has also played a key role in helping Security & Safety to develop organizational policies that meet IACLEA standards.
The assessment team, Assistant Director Schaubhut noted, is composed of experienced campus law enforcement professionals from out-of-state. The assessors will review written materials, interview individuals, and inspect facilities where compliance with professional standards can be witnessed. When the assessors have completed their review, they will report their findings to IACLEA, which will then decide whether the Office of Security and Safety will be granted accredited status.
The visiting IACLEA assessment team includes team leader Charles L. Simpson, Jr., Associate Vice President of Police & Public Safety / Chief of Police for Saint Augustine’s University and Allison Jean, Manager of CALEA and IACLEA accreditation programs and Certified Clery Compliance Officer for the University of New Hampshire.
Once attained, accreditation remains valid for four years, during which the department must submit annual reports attesting to continued compliance with those standards under which it was initially accredited.
