The Magic Of Jake Schwartz

Sept. 14, 2024, 7 p.m. - Sept. 14, 2024, 9 p.m.

Jake Schwartz is a professional magician and Richboro native who is best known for performing in 3 World Tours with the most viral sports team on the planet as The Savannah Bananas Magician First Base Coach. He has appeared on television over 65 times, won international awards, and been called The New Face Of Magic by media outlets across the globe because of his hyper-personable, highly engaging, and high-energy style of magic.

Jake performed his first magic trick at 2 years old, making his food 'disappear' for his parents at every meal. He was instantly hooked. But not everyone enjoys being FOOLED by a kid magician, so growing up Jake learned to tell STORIES through the magic. Suddenly, people werent made to be the FOOL, they were part of a STORY. Jake realized magic doesnt have to be a CHALLENGE pitting the magician against the audience, it could be a means of bringing people TOGETHER and telling stories. THIS story is about creating the most fun, the most personable, and the most entertaining magic show ever conceived, and bringing it to the world. No tacky costumes. No rabbits in hats. All FUN. The mission for every show: Come Together. Be Amazed. Change The Game.

Cultural Streaming-Dave Brubeck Quartet Live in Brussels

Oct. 10, 2024, 12:14 p.m. - Oct. 10, 2024, 1 p.m.

Take in recorded performances of leading classical and jazz artists, ensembles, and orchestras from around the world in the comfort of the Zlock Performing Arts Center. Free and Open to Public
The Dave Brubeck Quartet were the epitome of cool jazz, of sophisticated music that was accessible. For them, the conception of success within jazz was different: they toured the world, sold lots of records and generally enjoyed rockstar status in that once niche genre.
It was in 1959 that they first got together the same year Brubeck released his most enduring piece, Take Five. Here, they play it for a delighted crowd, along with other standards like In Your Own Sweet Way. Desmond takes center stage (he is the songs original composer) and delivers a feather-light style, weaving the melody like a silk thread around the bouncing of Brubecks chords. Joe Morello is a magician on the kit, afforded a long and famous solo, while Eugene Wright works a pensive, strolling bassline into the mix. It is hard-won mastery disguised as something light and easy. The result is simply wonderful.

Chris and Dan Brubeck have been making music together practically all their lives. Drummer Dan and bassist, trombonist, and composer Chris cut their first record together in 1966.. Theyve subsequently played a variety of styles in a number of different groups, as well as with their father, jazz giant Dave Brubeck, and with their own Brubeck Brothers Quartet. With Dan and Chris as the foundation, guitarist Mike DeMicco and pianist Chuck Lamb, complete this dynamic quartet.
The Quartets style is rooted in straight-ahead jazz, their concerts reveal an inherent ability to explore and play odd time signatures while naturally integrating the influences of funk, blues and world music. The groups creativity, technique and improvisation can be heard in their uncompromising music, which reflects their dedication to melody, rhythm, culture and the spontaneous spirit of jazz.

Take in recorded performances of leading classical and jazz artists, ensembles, and orchestras from around the world in the comfort of the Zlock Performing Arts Center. Free and Open to Public
Considered one of the bebop big four alongside Joe Pass, Jim Hall, and Wes Montgomery, Pat Martino wins over the Bielsko-Bia?a audience with his multifaceted and incisive virtuosity. This jazz grandmaster has influenced such artists as Michael Sembello, notably his famed Contusion, from the album Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder, as well as many others, in the course of an illustrious career that begins at the age of only 17 years old. Here in 2014, with keyboardist Pat Bianchi and drummer Carmen Intorre, he plays on one of his last and most beautiful concerts.
Pat Martino is not only creative and talented, but also combative, determined, and courageous: after a brain operation in 2004, he suffered from a complete loss of memory. Despite this trauma, he learns to play his instrument again by listening to his own albums. After finally making his comeback on the stage with his trio, he is named Guitarist of the year by Downbeat. He left us in 2021 after a long career spent offering the most precious gift he could: his music.

What is Bucks+?

Bucks+ is a co-curricular engagement program designed to help you find and participate in activities happening virtually, on-campus, throughout Bucks County, and beyond! Students earn points for activities, event attendance, and accomplishments at varying levels. The program focuses on competency areas employers are looking for: Community Engagement, Financial Literacy, Global Awareness, Personal/Professional Development and Bucks Pride. Students track their progress and share their accolades with peers, advisors, and employers using Suitable, an impact measurement tool for academic institutions.

Why Bucks+?

Bucks+ was originally adopted by the Business + Innovation Department and is modeled after Temple University’s recently developed Fox Leadership Development Program (FLDP). Suitable will transfer the applicable points from our Suitable system to Temple's when students transfer. For Business Administration students, it's 500 points and for all others it will be the points earned within the Career Starter badge that will transfer. This program is employed by Temple's Business School. Students earn points by attending or participating in extra-curricular/co-curricular events.

  • Bucks Pride

Bucks Pride is all about fun and social interaction. Find opportunities that enable you to make connections with fellow students, student organizations, student leaders, and the Bucks County Community College staff. Explore your interests, learn a new skill, or just blow off a little steam after your classes.

  • Personal & Professional Development

Personal development means growing in areas that will help you to be your best self. This means learning physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, financial, career and relationship skills that will serve you your entire life. Professional development means growing different areas of yourself that will help you be a better employee. What will help you in your personal growth will certainly also carry over to your professional life.

  • Financial Literacy

Financial literacy opportunities give you the chance to gain an understanding of various financial areas including topics related to managing personal finance, money, borrowing, and investing.

  • Global & Cultural Awareness

Global and Cultural Awareness opportunities will help you develop the ability to understand, respect and work well with people from diverse cultures in our interconnected world. The idea behind global awareness is to create global citizens who are open to those raised in different countries, cultures and religious settings.

  • Community Engagement

Community Engagement opportunities encourage students to engage with community and civic society. Working in collaboration with community organizations enables development of the ability to work well with others, and build transferable skills such as leadership and communication. These are real opportunities to test knowledge, skills, and attributes, including problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking.

Not transferring? Employers look not only for academic excellence but also initiative. A 2016 survey conducted by the National Association of Colleges and Employers showed that being involved in extracurricular activities had more influence on hiring decisions than a student's GPA. Research by Gallup also shows that students involved in extracurricular activities are 60% more likely to feel prepared for life after college. Participating in Bucks+ will showcase your dedication to the continued development of skills in the four competency areas. Earn a digital badge in Leadership and/or Community Engagement and display them on your Linked In profile for even more benefit!
