After Care Hours – 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm
Parents/Guardians must register their camper for After Care the Monday before camper’s camp begins. Campers who are enrolled in the After Care program will be taken to After Care at the end of the regular camp day. The After Care Program is located in the Gallagher Room in the Rollins building on campus. Parents/Guardians must show Photo I.D. when picking up their camper.

Lego Animation 1 RCHYC 5031 C01
*For each day of camp, campers will experience some instruction and examples before going off to work independently or in a group. This camp is designed to give campers as much lab time as possible to work on their creations.
Stop Motion is a powerful animation technique that makes static objects appear to be moving. In this camp, you will use Lego bricks and found objects as the subjects of your animation. Brainstorm your ideas, create the storyboard, construct the props, shoot the still frames, and then, edit the finished animation using Windows Movie Maker. Students will receive a USB bracelet with all their animations on it. Campers have the option of bringing in their own Lego sets in a plastic container to use for this camp. Campers will be responsible for their own Lego sets and will not be sharing them with other campers in this camp.
Beginner Sewing 1 RCHYC 6003 C01
Campers will learn the basics of sewing by hand and by machine. They will learn and practice sewing techniques to acquire skills to make a variety of useful and fun items. Campers who take the first week of Beginner Sewing 1 are invited to repeat the camp to continue sewing and gain new skills, making new projects as directed by the instructor.

*This camp goes out fishing every day and campers will experience the summer heat. It is highly recommended campers bring hat, sunscreen, extra water and wear clothing and shoes that parents and campers don’t mind getting dirty or wet. The campers will take water and shade breaks throughout the day. Campers will be fishing in the rain; however, if there is a severe storm, the camp will be inside.
Campers will go on daily excursions to Tyler State Park to learn the practice of fishing, basic fish identification, and some friendly challenges related to fishing, such as biggest fish caught, the greatest number of fish caught, etc. It is recommended that campers bring their own fishing rods, but rods can be supplied. Instruction on safe casting, baiting of hooks, good fishing areas, and good fishing etiquette will be taught. Bring rain gear if conditions merit it.

Have you ever wanted to be able to create your own action figures from your favorite tv show or movie, or create an articulating model of a cute baby octopus? This introduction to 3D printing course teaches campers how to create their very own 3D plastic models. Campers will learn the basic principles of 3D modeling using the open source online software Tinkercad™. This course will introduce campers to introductory engineering design skills, and provide hands on experience with one of the latest technologies in the STEM field. Campers will get to design their own model, print the model, and take it home with them by the end of the course. 3D printing is not only a fun experience, but it is also educational!

Participants will be provided opportunities to exercise hand-eye coordination while learning the skills of golf in a safe and fun environment. All levels of ability will be met with appropriate, age related skills and games. The focus of this camp is to generate cooperation, interest, and fun. It is recommended that campers bring extra water and campers bring their own golf clubs.

Your camper will work as cast and crew teams in this innovative cool camp. Campers are taught the basic levels of acting, directing, voice-over, operating the camera and working on green screen. Script writing, storyboarding and improvisation will also be introduced. Each day is different as they create projects as commercials, film scenes, music videos and public service announcements. A huge benefit of this camp is increasing memory, reading skills and confidence.

After camp, all footage is sent to a professional editor. A digital film will be emailed to you. Allow up to 3 months editing.

*This is a 2-week Camp - July 3-14, 2023
Have you ever wanted to create a secret box that looks like something else or an articulated model of your pet? This course is a continuation of Introduction to 3D Printing and Modeling, though taking both is not required. Campers will learn basic and intermediate principles of 3D modeling using the open-source online software Tinkercad. This course will help campers enhance their engineering design skills and learn about the prototyping process as they design an articulated or multi-part 3D model that they will print, assemble, and get to take home with them by the end of the course. 3D printing something functional is not only exciting and rewarding, but helps students learn about one of the latest technologies in the STEM field! Musical Theatre 3 Week Camp 7/10-28/2023 for Ages 11-14 RCHYC 5049 C01
*3 Week Camp that starts on July 10 and ends on July 28.
**Auditions are held on the first day of camp. If your camper misses the first day of camp, then your camper will be assigned a remaining part for the play.
A more advance musical theatre camp for campers that have a desire to perform onstage. Campers will learn to sing, act, and dance. A full-length Junior/Youth Musical will be performed. There will be two performances on the final two days of camp. Auditions will be held on the first day of camp. The music for the play will be rehearsed in the mornings and the dance and staging will be in the afternoons. This Summer’s performance will be Footloose, Youth.

This camp is perfect for the aspiring young ‘actors’ in your household. It is here they will learn real auditioning skills by working with scripts for commercials and film readings. Your camper will learn how to personalize characters and follow direction, block for camera, and read with their ‘co-stars’. Voice over will also be introduced. Improvisation and ad-libbing (off the script) will be taught as a basis of making acting choices and trusting their instincts. A huge benefit of this camp is increasing memory, reading skills and confidence. Included in this camp is a take-home tutorial showing you ways to find acting jobs as well as a list of legitimate talent agencies.

* This camp is structured like a class at school. Recommended for participants who are seriously interested in law.
Campers learn about the court system. They are taught trail skills such as opening statements, closing argument, direct and cross examination of witnesses, and how to get things into evidence. During the week, they role play as attorneys and as witnesses and the week culminates in a Mock Trial for a Jury of their families.

Flower fun for everyone! Learn the language of flowers and use your creativity through a variety of activities. Campers will work with fresh, artificial, and pressed flowers to create bouquets, vases, and framed displays. We will also learn DIY tricks to make beautiful balloon flowers and arches that are perfect party décor. To finish the week, we will have a Flower Show for parents and campers to enjoy!

* This camp is structured like a class at school. Recommended for participants who are seriously interested in learning the proper skills and etiquette for debating.
Campers learn different types of debate forms (Lincoln Douglas, Parliamentary, etc.) as well as how to research, validate and present their positions in order to be successful in the debate process. Over the course of the week, they will be taught and will practice persuasive speaking skills, as they learn the different techniques of debate. On the last day of camp, the students debate their topics in front of an audience.

*This camp goes out fishing every day and campers will experience the summer heat. It is highly recommended campers bring hat, sunscreen, extra water and wear clothing and shoes that parents and campers don’t mind getting dirty or wet. The campers will take water and shade breaks throughout the day. Campers will be fishing in the rain; however, if there is a severe storm, the camp will be inside.
Campers will go on daily excursions to Tyler State Park to learn the practice of fishing, basic fish identification, and some friendly challenges related to fishing, such as biggest fish caught, the greatest number of fish caught, etc. It is recommended that campers bring their own fishing rods, but rods can be supplied. Instruction on safe casting, baiting of hooks, good fishing areas, and good fishing etiquette will be taught. Bring rain gear if conditions merit it.

It may feel like you need to travel to far off, exotic places to have incredible experiences with wildlife, but that is not the case! Learn about the staggering diversity of species found right in your own backyard through hands on activities, real scientific methods, and lots of outdoor exploration. Good outdoor shoes and clothing is highly recommended. We will be exploring nature for real. Bring rain gear if conditions merit it.

Step into the robotic and rocketry world while building a basic robot and beginner rockets. This camp will be filled with discussion of past, present, and future robotics and rocketry. Science fiction is discussed to show that without it, the advances in technology would be difficult. With this hands-on course, the history and future of robotics and rocketry is at your fingertips.

Minecraft Modders
Customize your own Minecraft world and mod the classic game in this one-of-a-kind class. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods. Campers will create a wide variety of new elements, gameplay mechanics, and world generating mods to change the way you play Minecraft. Projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Returning campers can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.
Smash Brawler
If you love games like Super Smash Bros, you will love this class! Using professional development software, customize your own 2D brawler game and configure your own characters. Learn how to balance multiplayer gameplay by modifying variables and editing scripts. Then challenge your classmates to compete on the platform level you designed. Smash Brawler games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with family and friends.

Kids on Campus After Care for Week 7 - July 31-August 4, 2023
After Care Hours – 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm
Parents/Guardians must register their camper for After Care the Monday before camper’s camp begins. Campers who are enrolled in the After Care program will be taken to After Care at the end of the regular camp day. The After Care Program is located in the Gallagher Room in the Rollins building on campus. Parents/Guardians must show Photo I.D. when picking up their camper.
Parents/Guardians must talk with the After Care Leader for any issues and/or concerns that occurred during After Care hours.
Lego Animation 1 RCHYC 5031 C05
*For each day of camp, campers will experience some instruction and examples before going off to work independently or in a group. This camp is designed to give campers as much lab time as possible to work on their creations.
Stop Motion is a powerful animation technique that makes static objects appear to be moving. In this camp, you will use Lego bricks and found objects as the subjects of your animation. Brainstorm your ideas, create the storyboard, construct the props, shoot the still frames, and then, edit the finished animation using Windows Movie Maker. Students will receive a USB bracelet with all their animations on it. Campers have the option of bringing in their own Lego sets in a plastic container to use for this camp. Campers will be responsible for their own Lego sets and will not be sharing them with other campers in this camp.

*Campers may watch some episodes of Project Runway: Junior during the week so campers can gain inspiration for their projects.
Inspired by the TV show, Project Runway, this camp is for inspiring young designers who love fashion. Campers will learn about color, fabric, styling, and how to draw and color their own original designs. They will take on a design challenge by creating their own design collection. Bring a flash drive or Google account log-in to save camper work.

This is a one-week intensive session in which jazz theory, history and practical application are combined in an ensemble format that is both fun and instructive. If you are involved in school band or jazz band, are a beginner or advanced musician, this experience is for you! Any and all instruments are welcome!

Mock Trial 2 RCHYC 5725 C02
*Prerequisite: Students need to have taken Mock Trial 1 before taking Mock Trial 2*
** This camp is structured like a class at school. Recommended for participants who are seriously interested in law.
Campers will use the basic trial skills that they learned in Mock Trial I and add to them, by learning how to qualify an expert and how to introduce archival documents into evidence. They will research the historical topic selected for the trial and will write witness statements for each witness as well as for an "expert" historian. On the last day of camp, they will present the trial to a jury.

Unlock the power of ROBLOX Studio, the world creation tool used by real-world ROBLOX developers! Learn how to build 3D models and create an adventure in your ROBLOX world. Intermediate 3D Printing Camp RCHYC 6253 C02
*This is a 2-week camp - July 31-August 11, 2023
Have you ever wanted to create a secret box that looks like something else or an articulated model of your pet? This course is a continuation of Introduction to 3D Printing and Modeling, though taking both is not required. Campers will learn basic and intermediate principles of 3D modeling using the open-source online software Tinkercad. This course will help campers enhance their engineering design skills and learn about the prototyping process as they design an articulated or multi-part 3D model that they will print, assemble, and get to take home with them by the end of the course. 3D printing something functional is not only exciting and rewarding, but helps students learn about one of the latest technologies in the STEM field! Flag Football Camp will focus on building basic football fundamentals in a positive environment. Led by an instructor with 25 years coaching experience on the college level, we will teach the fast-paced game of flag football in a fun and safe way. This camp is a great opportunity to try all positions, learn football strategy, develop skills, and gain confidence. We will conduct every drill and competition with an emphasis on being a great teammate! All skill levels are welcome and encouraged!

Take a voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond as we explore planets, moons, and other space phenomena. Create a comet and build your own Mad Science rocket and participate in a real NASA style rocket launch! Campers will take home additional NASA activities to complete at home! Mad Science is the ONLY organization licensed by NASA to use these activities for Summer Camp!
NASA: STEM Explorers
Developed in partnership with NASA, our campers will think and act like NASA innovators during this hands-on program inspired by the NASA Optimus Prime Research Challenge (NASA OPSPARC). Use creative and collaborative skills to design a mission patch, train like an astronaut, build a Mars rover and solve real-world engineering problems. How might you use space suit cooling tubes to solve a problem here on Earth?

*For each day of camp, campers will experience some instruction and examples before going off to work independently or in a group. This camp is designed to give campers as much lab time as possible to work on their creations.
Making comics! Over the course of this camp, campers will develop a story, create characters, learn about writing dialogue, inking, adding color, creating panels, speech bubbles; and finally make their own short comic strip and/or create the beginning of their own comic masterpiece. Please note this is not a "learn to draw" camp.
Acting for the Camera RCHYC 6172 C01
This camp is perfect for the aspiring young ‘actors’ in your household. It is here they will learn real auditioning skills by working with scripts for commercials and film readings. Your camper will learn how to personalize characters and follow direction, block for camera, and read with their ‘co-stars’. Voice over will also be introduced. Improvisation and ad-libbing (off the script) will be taught as a basis of making acting choices and trusting their instincts. A huge benefit of this camp is increasing memory, reading skills and confidence. Included in this camp is a take-home tutorial showing you ways to find acting jobs as well as a list of legitimate talent agencies.
Materials Campers need to bring each day to camp: A notebook, pen, and pencil.
After camp, all footage is sent to a professional editor. A digital film will be emailed to you. Allow up to 3 months editing.
