Transfer Services
Bucks County Community College offers a clear, affordable, and academically strong path to earning a bachelor’s degree. By completing an associate degree at Bucks, students can fulfill the requirements of the first two years of a four-year program and transfer their credits to a partner institution—with ease—through established dual admission and transfer agreements.
To support a seamless transfer experience, early planning is essential. Students are encouraged to meet with Transfer Specialists during their first semester to develop a course schedule that aligns with both their associate degree and future bachelor’s degree goals. Transfer Fairs are held throughout the academic year, providing opportunities to meet with representatives from a wide range of four-year institutions.
Transfer Agreements
Bucks courses are widely transferable, even without formal agreements. However, many colleges and universities have established clear transfer pathways that make the process even smoother:
- Core-to-Core Agreements: Completing an associate degree at Bucks fulfills the general education (core) requirements at the transfer institution.
- Transfer Intent (Dual Admission) Agreements: These agreements guarantee admission to a partner institution or specific program upon completion of a Bucks degree and other stated requirements.
- Program-to-Program Agreements: These outline exactly which courses a student should complete as part of their associate degree to transfer at the junior level into a specific major.
- Course Equivalency Lists: Many institutions provide course equivalency guides to show how Bucks courses transfer into their programs.
Some institutions maintain more than one type of agreement with Bucks. Full details, including agreement documents and transfer planning tools, are available on the Transfer Services website, or by contacting Transfer Services at 215-968-8183 or transfer@bucks.edu.
Important Considerations
Students should be aware that developmental (non-credit) coursework typically does not transfer, and some occupational programs are designed for immediate employment rather than further academic study. Courses with a grade of D or courses concentrated in a single area may not meet transfer requirements. Additionally, transfer credit limits and program-specific requirements vary by institution. Early engagement with Transfer Services can help students navigate these variables and ensure a smooth transition to a four-year institution.
Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE)
There are transfer advantages for Pennsylvania community college students who transfer to one of the universities of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE). The PASSHE system includes the following institutions: Cheyney University, Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania (Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield campuses), East Stroudsburg University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Kutztown University, Millersville University, Pennsylvania Western University (California, Clarion, and Edinboro campuses), Shippensburg University, Slippery Rock University, and West Chester University.
The PA Transfer Credit Framework was developed among these universities and PA community colleges. This Framework allows students to transfer up to 30 credits of foundation courses from Bucks County Community College to any of the PASSHE universities or other PA community colleges and have those courses count toward graduation. The Framework includes courses in English, public speaking, math, science, art, humanities, history and the behavioral and social sciences.
Additionally, there are Statewide P2P Articulation Agreements that allow students who graduate with specific associate degrees to transfer as juniors into a bachelor’s degrees in similar fields of study at Pennsylvania Transfer and Articulation Center (PA TRAC) colleges.
