Policies + Procedures  —  Human Resources Policies  —  Tuition Waiver

4.8 Tuition Waiver

The purpose of this policy is to provide a standard tuition waiver policy for employees and their eligible dependents taking credit and non-credit education courses, or participating in summer camps at the College.

This policy applies to the following employee categories: Full-Time Benefit Eligible, Part-Time Benefit Eligible, Part-Time Faculty, Part-Time Under 20 hired prior to January 1, 2022, and externally funded positions consistent with benefit eligible roles and FTEs. Eligible dependents include a spouse and/or dependent children up to age 26. For the purposes of Tuition Waiver Policy 4.8, dependent children are defined as biological, adopted, or child(ren) under an employee’s legal guardianship who have not attained the age of 26 prior to the start of the academic term for which the waiver is requested.

The following employee categories are excluded from Tuition Waiver benefits: Part-Time Under 20 employees hired after January 1, 2022, Seasonal, Temporary, Contract, and Non-credit Instructors.

Credit course tuition, inclusive of out-of-county and out-of-state capital fees, is waived for eligible employees of the College and their eligible dependents as outlined in the Tuition Waiver Eligibility chart below. The maximum tuition waiver benefit per academic term per eligible student is 16 credits. Non- credit course tuition waiver amount for full and part-time employees is calculated using the formula included in this policy and eligibility as indicated in the chart.

Tuition waiver does not cover College services fee, technology fee, student activity fee, textbooks, or other course related expenses. Fees and course related expenses are due at the time of registration. The College reserves the right to require the payment of any outstanding fees before approving tuition waivers.

For credit courses, eligible employees must submit a completed Request for Tuition Waiver form with the signatures of their supervisor and Vice President or Provost to the Human Resources Office prior to registration. . These forms are available through the Human Resources Office.

For credit courses, the maximum tuition waiver per semester will be 16 credits per student (not employee). For non-credit courses, the tuition waiver will be calculated as follows: for each 16 hours of non-credit instruction, a reduction to the course cost will be applied equivalent to the cost of 1 credit hour of tuition, with a maximum tuition waiver of 16 credits per student (not employee), per course. Enrollment in non-credit courses will be on a space available basis. An employee’s children, stepchildren, adopted and foster children, may enroll in summer camps at a 50% reduction in tuition for full-time employees and 25% reduction for part-time employees. See chart below for tuition waiver coverage by employee category.

Maximum 16 credits per student per semester (credit)

*Refer to Faculty Federation Contract for prorated waiver discount %; based on cumulative courses taught at the College.

Example: Non-Credit Tuition Waiver

Course name: A+ Networking Course cost: $1,865
Course length: 128 hours
Current credit tuition per hour: $130

Calculation: 128 hours/16 hour equivalent=8 .5 credit equivalent.

8.5 credit equivalent x $130 (current credit hour tuition) =$1,105 employee credit. Employee cost = Course cost $1,865 – Employee credit $1,105 = $760.

Employees registering for a course offered by the College are required to take it outside their scheduled work hours. An exception may be made by the area Vice President or Provost.
