Fabulous Fishing RCHYC 5614 C01
Campers will go on daily excursions to Tyler State Park to learning the practice of fishing, basic fish identification, and some friendly challenges related to fishing (i.e. biggest fish caught, farthest cast, the greatest number of fish caught, etc.). If needed, bait will be supplied. It is recommended that campers bring their own fishing rods, but rods can be supplied as well. Instruction on safe casting, baiting of hooks, good fishing areas, and good fishing etiquette will be presented. Bring rain gear when necessary.
Intro to Film and TV Camp RCHYC 6166 C01
Your children will work as cast and crew teams in this cool camp. Kids learn basic levels of acting, directing, voice-over, operating the camera and working on green screen. Script writing, storyboarding and improvisation will also be introduced. Each day is different as they create projects as commercials, film scenes, music videos and public service announcements. A huge benefit of this camp is increasing memory, reading skills and confidence. (After camp, all footage is sent to a professional editor. Parents will be mailed a USB)

It may feel like you need to travel to far off, exotic places to have incredible experiences with wildlife, but that is not the case! Learn about the staggering diversity of species found right in your own backyard through hands on activities, real scientific methods, and lots of outdoor exploration! Good outdoor shoes and clothing highly recommended, we will be exploring nature for real. Bring rain gear if conditions merit it.

Photoshop Magic is a camp created to inspire a camper’s creativity through digital designing tools and software. Taught by an award-winning art educator, the camp is designed to be flexible enough to introduce foundational skills and grow existing graphic design and photography experiences. The camp focuses on the possibilities of visual design that can be created using digital software and photography. Campers can take this camp multiple times and achieve growth and produce new products in each experience because of the personalized focus and endless potential that exists with this medium. Campers have opportunities to photograph, digitally paint, design and make multi-layered composites that they will turn into a printed product by the end of the camp. Science fiction is discussed to show that without it, the advances in technology would be difficult. Enjoy building two basic robots and rockets while learning how they work. With this hands-on course, the history and future of robotics and rocketry is at your fingertips.

* This camp is structured like a class at school. Recommended for participants who are seriously interested in law.
After learning about the Constitution and the court system, students will learn trial skills such as opening statements, closing argument, direct and cross examination of witnesses, how to get things into evidence. They role play as attorneys and as witnesses and the week culminates in a Mock Trial for a Jury of their families, friends and other students. There will also be a " Meet the Judge," over Zoom.
Music Video Camp RCHYC 6170 C01
Do you have an energetic performer in your household? Perhaps an aspiring choreographer or a video camera enthusiast? This program brings together a fun team that will work in unison performing with exciting music videos. In this camp your child will immerse themselves in music interpretation, creating a storyline, developing movement and/or dance routines for their favorite music videos. First, campers start their project with writing the storyline of that day’s music video. Next, they decide on the set (cool locations at the college). Finally, they are ready for choreographing and rehearsing the music video. Several music videos will be created over the course of the week. For camera enthusiasts, they will be planning, setting up/blocking and capturing many cool shots. Camper can take turns in front or behind the camera. This fun cast and crew team will promise a fun-packed day while learning new skills in team building, management and artistic creation. (After camp, all footage is sent to a professional editor. Does your child dream of what it’s like to be behind the microphone, performing like their favorite singer? Well, here's their chance! Students will have a blast developing their skills in songwriting, music recording, voice-overs, and audio equipment operation. Students can work interchangeably as talent and/or crew, behind the scenes or behind the microphone. They will learn vocal warm up routines, perform voice-overs and TV/radio announcements, have a blast singing karaoke to their favorite songs, and the best part is they will have the unique opportunity to create their very own song from start to finish and record it live. Students will produce a song from beginning to end and have a copy of that song to share with friends and family for years to come. Students will receive one professionally edited audio CD that contains all of their camp recordings for the week.

Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized app & game development tool, students will explore the world of web-based (HTML5) mobile apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see firsthand how the world of App publishing functions. Student-created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Publishing to App Stores not included. The Drones are here! Let the battles begin. In this hands-on, interactive class you will learn how to safely fly drone robots. Working in teams, you will be able to code your drone to compete in missions that will prepare you for the ultimate team challenge at the end of the week. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program.
eSports Apprentice - Streamers and Gamers
Whether you want to be the next pro gamer, streamer, or gamecaster this course will teach you the basics to get started! No longer just a hobby, eSports is the fastest-growing career for the next generation. Over 400 million people watched YouTube videos and Twitch streams of video game competitions this year alone! In this course, students will develop game-play skills and compete using Black Rocket’s eSports games and apps, learn how to produce commentary for live tournaments, use professional streaming software, and most importantly practice online safety. Student recordings will be available on a password protected website to share with friends and family. Videos will not be broadcast publicly but will be shared with all students in the class.

The Great Debaters RCHYC 6016 C01
* This camp is structured like a class at school. Recommended for participants who are seriously interested in learning the proper skills and etiquette for debating.
Students learn different types of debate forms (Lincoln Douglas, Parliamentary, etc.) as well as how to research, validate and present their positions in order to be successful in the debate process. Over the course of the week they will be taught/practice persuasive speaking skills, as they learn the different techniques of debate. On the last day of camp, the students debate their topics in front of an audience.

This camp is perfect for the aspiring young ‘actors’ in your household. It is here they will learn real auditioning skills by working with scripts for commercials and film readings. Your child will learn how to personalize characters and follow direction, block for camera and read with their ‘co-stars’. Voice over will also be introduced. Improvisation and ad-libbing (off the script) will be taught as a basis of making acting choices and trusting their instincts. A huge benefit of this camp is increasing memory, reading skills and confidence. Get into the “swing” with our exciting tennis clinic! Learn how to play the game of tennis. Groundstrokes, volleys, and serves will be taught. Tennis games and fun drills will help you practice these new skills. Doubles play will be demonstrated and strategy will be discussed. Hopefully, an appreciation and “love” of the game will be acquired. You must bring your own racket, lunch, and plenty of water!

If your child enjoys singing and performing, then this is the class for your up-and-coming superstar! Your child will have a blast singing and performing their favorite karaoke songs. While having fun, students will also learn basic vocal warm-ups and performance tips that will help build their confidence. If you love playing video games, this is the camp for you! Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind class that shows you the keys to designing your first 2D platformer game. Campers will learn the basics of cooking and event production. Each day will feature a brief lesson on safety & sanitation in the kitchen followed by recipe production.
Campers will also receive a brief talk about food photography and food & beverage in social media from a popular Philadelphia restaurant photographer.
The week will end on Friday with the group launching their event. Parents and Key BCCC staff will be invited.
Stephen Aleckna, Executive Chef
Stephen Aleckna began his career with the Restaurant Associate in 2007. He worked part time as a restaurant server while completing his degree in Ceramics at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia. He quickly realized he had a passion for the culinary arts. He asked to be moved to the kitchen where he worked as a prep cook until he accepted the role as Cafe Manager at the Penn Museum in 2010. From there, he moved up the ranks and was promoted to Executive Chef in 2015. He now oversees culinary and back of the house operations at several locations in the Philadephia area.

Over the course of this camp, students will create characters, learn about writing dialogue, inking, adding color, creating panels, speech bubbles; and finally make their own short comic strip and/or create the beginning of their own comic masterpiece. Please note this is not a "learn to draw" camp.

This is a one-week intensive session in which jazz theory, history and practical application are combined in an ensemble format that is both fun and instructive. Fabulous Fishing RCHYC 5614 C07
Campers will go on daily excursions to Tyler State Park to learning the practice of fishing, basic fish identification, and some friendly challenges related to fishing (i.e. biggest fish caught, farthest cast, the greatest number of fish caught, etc.). If needed, bait will be supplied. It is recommended that campers bring their own fishing rods, but rods can be supplied as well. Instruction on safe casting, baiting of hooks, good fishing areas, and good fishing etiquette will be presented. Bring rain gear when necessary.
Wildlife Exploration RCHYC 6205 C04
It may feel like you need to travel to far off, exotic places to have incredible experiences with wildlife, but that is not the case! Learn about the staggering diversity of species found right in your own backyard through hands on activities, real scientific methods, and lots of outdoor exploration! Good outdoor shoes and clothing highly recommended, we will be exploring nature for real. Bring rain gear if conditions merit it.
Beginner Sewing 1 RCHYC 6003 C01
Campers will learn the basics of sewing by hand and by machine. They will learn and practice sewing techniques to acquire skills to make a variety of useful and fun items.

Here's your opportunity to express your most creative self in a myriad of art projects! You will gain confidence as you spontaneously create imaginative works of art that reflect your own unique self. You will learn about and use many different techniques and media, including printmaking, drawing, painting, collage, sculpture and weaving. Discover the best in yourself. Ask questions, have fun, and keep on learning.
Mock Trial 2 RCHYC 5725 C01
*Prerequisite: Students need to have taken Mock Trial 1 before taking Mock Trial 2*
* This camp is structured like a class at school. Recommended for participants who are seriously interested in law.
Students will use the basic trial skills that they learned in Mock Trial I and add to them, by learning how to qualify an expert and how to introduce archival documents into evidence. They will research the historical topic selected for the trial and will write witness statements for each witness as well as for an "expert" historian. On the last day of camp, they will present the trial to a jury. (EX: Thomas Jefferson was tried for hypocrisy. Witnesses included: James Callendar, Sally Hemmings, Martha Jefferson Randolph, and James Madison, aside from an historical expert for both sides. In 2017 and again in 2019, the students did the retrial of Sacco and Vanzetti, including ballistics experts for both sides; fact witnesses and of course, the defendants). This year the trial may be Ethel and Julius Rosenberg or the owners of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory.
Intro to Film and TV Camp RCHYC 6166 C02
Your children will work as cast and crew teams in this cool camp. Kids learn basic levels of acting, directing, voice-over, operating the camera and working on green screen. Script writing, storyboarding and improvisation will also be introduced. Each day is different as they create projects as commercials, film scenes, music videos and public service announcements. A huge benefit of this camp is increasing memory, reading skills and confidence. (After camp, all footage is sent to a professional editor. Parents will be mailed a USB)

Make Your First 3D Video Game!
In this Black Rocket classic, you will go well beyond the limitations of the traditional 2D game design classes and create an immersive 3D world. Students will learn the physics behind 3D games, explore beginner event scripting, level design, controlling the flow of gameplay, and storytelling. Student projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family projects are only compatible with Windows devices.
Minecraft® Modders
Customize your own Minecraft® world and mod the classic game in this one of a kind class. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods. Students will create a wide variety of new elements, gameplay mechanics, and world generating mods to change the way you play Minecraft®. Projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.
Fitness Fun 2 RCHYC 6068 C01
Fitness Fun 2 builds off of the skills learned in Fitness Fun 1 but is welcome to all. Take a break from the computer and video games, and come exercise with us this summer. Learn the importance of “Functional Fitness” and its role on becoming a better mover. Functional fitness uses movements that help your body function like it should, giving you the ability to get normal things done in your daily life. Learn how to use your own body to get stronger. Have fun learning basic movements using medicine balls, kettlebells and low weight dumbbells. Try our resistance bands to get toned and become more flexible with our yoga stretches. Learn how to boost your metabolism and track your steps/distance with daily walking and jogging at Tyler State Park. You will also be having some fun with jumping rope. Learn how to make healthy food choices and the importance of nutrition in the world of Fitness. Play various cooperative games, 3 v 3 soccer, kickball, capture the flag, tennis baseball, basketball lead up games, along with many other fun outdoor games that include lots of movement. This camp will introduce campers to the world of 3D animation. We will touch the basics of the 3D world, and how to create simple objects and animations in Cinema 4D. Throughout the week we will go over the user interface of the program and functionality as a group. We will break out each day to individually spread our creative wings and create various objects and animations.

Tennis, Anyone? RCHYC 5606 C02
Get into the “swing” with our exciting tennis clinic! Learn how to play the game of tennis. Groundstrokes, volleys, and serves will be taught. Tennis games and fun drills will help you practice these new skills. Doubles play will be demonstrated and strategy will be discussed. Hopefully, an appreciation and “love” of the game will be acquired. You must bring your own racket, lunch, and plenty of water!
