INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING RFNRT 8066 C01 / CPV1

You will learn how to recognize types of edges, lines, and angles; how to recognize proportion and perspective; how to render light, shadow, and highlights by the use of gradations of tone; and how to be creative. Creativity is an obvious but an extremely important skill gained from this course. It involves you being observant, self-expressive, focused, disciplined, perseverant, collaborative, and a risk-taker.
Norman F. Simms was born in Washington, DC in 1956. After graduating from Art Instructions Schools, he pursued a passion for fine arts at Murray State University. He graduated from the Washington School for Drafting Technology, the Center for Degree Studies with an Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, the University of Maryland with a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, and the Academy of Art with a Masters Degree in Fine Arts.
He creates dynamic paintings and drawings of various medium. He has exhibited his artworks regionally in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York City. He has received the “Palmer Award for Excellence” at the Trenton City Museum at Ellarslie for his oil painting, “The Artist and his Model”. His pastel paintings, “Butterfly Dance”, “Reflection”, and “Blossom”, have been featured in “The Best of America Pastel Artists Volume II”. His oil painting, “The Artist and his Model”, has also been published in the book, “Important World Artists Vol. I, A World of Art”.
He is a member of the national fine arts organizations, Portrait Society of America, The Pastel Society of America, and Oil Painters of America. He is also a member of the local art organizations, Artsbridge, Artists of Yardley, and Artists of Bristol.
He lives in Fairless Hills, PA, teaching group and private art lessons. He has also published two books, Portrait and Nude Painting & Philosophies, and Interview between the Jackass and the Artist. He is currently working on several books on the subject matters of portraiture, expressions in art, and technique and practices in fine arts.

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced watercolor artist, this course will help you achieve sparkling highlights and luscious wet washes in this transparent, luminous medium. You are encouraged to bring your own still life items to arrange, or photographic reference materials. Emphasis will be on promoting your creativity and the realization of your vision as an artist. Please bring what supplies you have and a supply list will be given out and discussed on the first day of class.

- After graduating from Moore College of Art, Gail began her career in textile design & worked in that field for over 20 years.
- In 1992, Gail began focusing on watercolor.
- In 1993, she began teaching watercolor classes and workshops and found it to be a wonderfully rewarding experience. Among other teaching assignments, she has an ongoing Saturday morning group she calls “Watercolor Anarchy”. Gail also occasionally does classes and workshops thru the Arts Council in Princeton (NJ).
- In 2013, Gail began teaching watercolor at Bucks County Community College, at the Newtown Campus as well as Pennswood Village.
- Gail is a signature member of the Philadelphia Watercolor Society & her paintings are actively exhibited in juried, group and solo shows throughout the region.
- Gail has won several awards and many of her paintings are held in private collections in the USA, Europe & Australia.
Gail's studio is at Canal Works in Bristol.

Let freelance photographer Tom DeLorenzo give you an in-depth look at camera operations, basic photographic technique, image composition and post-processing, to help you elevate your photographs from ordinary to extraordinary. Sessions will rotate from the classroom to local shoot sites (weather permitting) to implement and practice those newly acquired skills over 4 projects. Digital camera, capture media, and operations manual required for all sessions.

The artist Cecilia Beaux was advised by seascape artist Alexander Harrison to take up plein air painting to help her portrait and figure painting. The idea was to quickly render the subject before the subject moved or the environment changed. Premier coup and All prima painting is painting that is completed generally in one to two sittings with minimal touch-up. You will learn the necessary techniques to complete a painting in a short time period without over-analyzing from a still life setup. Emphasis will be on a quick interpretation of color, technique, and composition. Note: Please bring whatever supplies you have and a supply list will be given out the first night of class.

You will learn the fundamentals of painting in gouache. You will discover essential techniques and practice painting in a variety of environments. You will learn about different surfaces such as mylar, toned papers, brushes, brands of gouache, and painters that use gouache and how to apply gouache at its right consistency. Simultaneously, you will learn and gain confidence in individual artistic decisions such as color, temperature, line, mark making, form, shape, placement, composition and brush calligraphy and the application of the material.

You will be guided to execute basic oil painting set-ups to include: composition, light & shadow, perspective, color values and use of under paintings. You will learn techniques to create skies, tress, rock formations and water surfaces. Class will include a discussion and demonstration of wet on wet surfaces.
