Metalwork Pre-Apprenticeship Program

Do you like working with your hands and want to start a new career? The Metalwork Pre-Apprenticeship Program at Bucks could be the right fit for you.
This free, grant-funded training program prepares you for high-demand jobs in advanced manufacturing. After just 12 weeks, you’ll be ready for entry-level jobs like machinist, CNC operator, or quality assurance inspector. Most graduates earn $19 to $22 per hour and get full benefits. We’ll also help you connect with local employers and support your job search every step of the way.

Sessions are held at the Center for Advanced Technologies, 1302 Veterans Highway, Bristol, PA.
What You’ll Learn
This 288-hour program combines classroom learning with hands-on training. You’ll gain the basic skills needed to start work in metalworking and earn 12 college credits toward an associate degree.
Courses Include:
- Workplace and machine safety
- Basic shop math
- Using hand tools and manual machines
- CNC (computer numeric control) machining
- Welding
- Blueprint reading
- Forklift safety
- U.S. Department of Energy’s Industrial Technologies Advanced Certificate (DOE ITAC) in energy efficiency
- OSHA 10 certification
- NIMS certification in Measurement, Materials, and Safety
Taught by Experts
You’ll learn from experienced instructors who know the industry. They’ll guide you as you build your skills and prepare for a job in the field.
Program Highlights
- Free training for those who meet grant and program eligibility (valued at $6,500)
- 12-week, in-person program held Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.–3 p.m.

All training takes place at the Center for Advanced Technologies, 1302 Veterans Highway, Bristol, PA.
Program Requirements
To qualify, you must:
- Be a U.S. citizen or possess a Green Card
- Have a high school diploma or GED
- Be 18 or older
- Pass a drug screening, background check (case by case), physical, and electro-mechanical aptitude test
- Have reliable transportation to and from training
- Open to residents of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery & Philadelphia Counties
