The 100-hour Dental Assistant Program at Bucks prepares you for entry-level positions in one of the fastest-growing healthcare positions – Dental Assistant. The purpose of this course is to familiarize you with all areas of pre-clinical dental assisting and provide training in the professional skills required to function as an assistant in a dental practice.
Free for eligible participants
The Dental Assistant program is free for eligible participants who qualify for PA CareerLink® funding or PA Good Jobs® funding and live in Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery or Philadelphia counties.
Veterans and their spouses living in Bucks or Montgomery counties receive 100% funding for tuition, books, and the certification exam. Additional veteran services are available through Veterans Employment Program (VEP) at PA CareerLink® Bucks County. Please contact Ara Kimbrough at akimbrough@edsi.com for information.
Spring Course Offerings
The Dental Assistant course is a hybrid format held two days a week. Each week includes one in-person session on the Newtown Campus and one live online session on Zoom. You must attend both sessions.

This course covers key areas and topics, such as:
- Administrative aspects
- The history of dentistry and dental assisting
- Introduction to the dental office
- The legal aspects of dentistry
- Policies and guidelines
- Clinical aspects:
- Introduction to oral anatomy
- Dental operatory
- Dental equipment
- Introduction to tooth structure
- Primary and permanent teeth
- The oral cavity and related structures
- Proper patient positioning
- Dental hand-pieces
- Sterilization
Additionally, this course is designed to prepare you to sit for the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) Radiology Health and Safety Examination (RHS). The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires that any dental office employee who will be performing radiological procedures as auxiliary personnel (other than a licensed dentist or dental hygienist) must take and pass the DANB RHS and register with the State. The cost of this exam is $270 and is not included in the program cost. The exam is administered at Pearson Vue Centers.
Dental Assistant for Non-Native English Speakers
Our exciting program is perfect for intermediate and advanced English Language Learners (ELL) interested in becoming a Dental Assistant. This program is separate from the Dental Assistant program.

Refund and Cancellation Policy
If you wish to withdraw from a course before it starts, you can cancel and ask for a refund. Your request must be received by phone or in person at least five (5) days before the course begins to receive a refund. No course refunds will be made after this time. There is a $35 non-refundable fee for all cancellations.
