The Honors@Bucks graduate has an ultimate career goal of becoming a cognitive neurologist, focusing on neurodegenerative diseases.
The Warrington resident, who immigrated from Ukraine at the age of eight, completed a research internship on Alzheimer’s disease at the University of Pennsylvania, and presented her findings at the 33rd annual Beacon Conference for students at two-year colleges.
Kateryna says she chose Bucks because it offered great opportunities and classes, as well as a beautiful campus and supportive community. During her time at here, the Central Bucks South alumna was president of the Honors@Bucks club, focusing on community service, as well as vice president of service for Phi Theta Kappa.
"One of my favorite events was the Washington, D.C., trip with the Centurion Leadership Program, where we were able to volunteer for D.C. Central Kitchen and explore the capital. While all of my professors and classes were amazing, my favorite classes include General Chemistry II with Professor (Ryan) Fealy, Calculus I with Professor (Mary) Bolton, and Organic Chemistry I and II with Professor (Rebecca) Han. In addition, Dr. (Stephen) doCarmo has provided support throughout the past two years from the Honors Program and as advisor to the Honors@Bucks club".
What’s more, Kateryna was chosen as one of two student speakers at the College’s 59th annual commencement, where she encouraged her classmates to never stop learning.
"As everyone here prepares to take their next step, whether it is stepping into the workforce, continuing to pursue further degrees, or exploring what’s next – remember to never stop learning and discovering new things. Even something small like cooking a new recipe, watching a documentary that sparks questions, taking a class, or listening to someone’s story can open doors to unexpected opportunities."
