A Journey Fueled by Kindness, Compassion, and Community

At 26 years old, Ethan Greco jokes that he’s “older than I’d like to be,” but his story carries a quiet kind of wisdom that only comes from persistence. He grew up in Warminster, and after years of starts, stops, and unexpected challenges, he found himself back there again, this time on the brink of something he once wasn’t sure he’d ever reach — graduation in May 2026.
When Ethan first enrolled at Bucks County Community College in 2018, his decision was simple and practical. College elsewhere wasn’t financially possible. Bucks made higher education accessible, and for him, that accessibility wasn’t just convenient, it was life-changing. He stepped onto campus with an interest in environmental science and a hope, still fragile, that he might find his place.
Life, however, did not unfold in a straight line. Financial and health struggles forced him away from school for a time. When he returned, the world felt unfamiliar and intimidating. After a long period of isolation and illness, even the ordinary rhythm of campus life felt overwhelming. But a close friend encouraged him to lean into discomfort rather than retreat away from it; to step forward even when fear made standing still feel safer.

Ethan Took That Advice to Heart

He began by attending campus events. At first, simply to try something new. He introduced himself to strangers. He waved to people in hallways. He made a point of welcoming other Bucks students who looked uncertain or alone. What began as an effort to push past his own fears gradually transformed into a calling. He became a familiar presence on the Newtown Campus, someone who seemed to know everyone and everything. His enthusiasm was contagious, earning him recognition during the annual Student Awards celebration as the College’s “Most Engaged Student” two years in a row. He even accumulated more Bucks+ engagement points than any student before him. But the recognition wasn’t what mattered most.

A Sense of Community

For Ethan, involvement became a turning point in his personal journey. Years of depression, physical illness, and isolation had left him feeling powerless. The community he found at Bucks gave him something he hadn’t realized he needed: connection. The simple act of showing up, again and again, helped him rebuild confidence and rediscover purpose.
That sense of community proved especially meaningful after the loss of the friend who had first urged him to step outside his comfort zone. Grieving deeply, Ethan found support among classmates, faculty, and staff who surrounded him with compassion. In a time when the world felt like it was unraveling, the campus community held steady and helped him continue moving forward, carrying both gratitude and memories with him.

The Simplest Gestures Can Make the Biggest Difference

One moment, in particular, captures the impact of his journey. A fellow student once told Ethan that a simple greeting in the hallway had made him feel seen at a time when he felt invisible. That small act of kindness helped the student stay enrolled at Bucks. Ethan admits the conversation moved him to tears. Not because of recognition, but because it affirmed something he had come to believe, that kindness matters most when it seems smallest.
Academically, Ethan found inspiration in the classroom as well. A course with Dr. Kathi Knight deepened his connection to environmental science and rekindled a childhood wonder for the natural world. Through hands-on learning, he rediscovered curiosity and certainty about his future. What had once been a tentative interest became a lifelong direction.

Some Days, Reality Still Feels Surreal

Now, as he approaches graduation, Ethan reflects on how far he has come. He has been accepted to his dream school — Delaware Valley University — where he will pursue environmental science studies. He has also secured his dream job as an environmental educator, a role that blends his passion for nature with his desire to help others grow.
For students considering Bucks, Ethan offers advice that reflects both his journey and his heart, “Get involved. Engage with the community. Take advantage of opportunities. Most of all, be kind.” A smile, a greeting, a moment of connection, these simple gestures can change someone’s experience, just as they changed his.
To Ethan, Bucks County Community College is more than a place to attend classes. It is a vibrant learning community shaped by care, resilience, and human connection. And as he prepares to leave and continue his academic journey, he carries with him not only a degree, but a renewed belief in possibility. Proof that growth often begins with the courage to show up, and the willingness to reach out.
