- Safe shop practices are emphasized. In addition to class studio time, students are expected to work outside of class each week under the supervision of a lab assistant. There is a material supply cost for this course.
- VI. Catalog Course Description
- This course covers basic studio techniques of stained glass, glass fusing, and glass blowing through the use of various tools, equipment, and processes. Students attain the introductory skills required for the production of glass objects and to aesthetic sensitivity for the material. Safe studio procedures are emphasized.

Course Learning Goals
Students will:
- employ the safety procedures necessary to manipulate hot and cold glass;
- utilize the techniques necessary in stained glass, glass fusing, and glassblowing; and
- execute personal designs in a variety of glass techniques.

Planned Sequence of Topics and/or Learning Activities
In the creation of glass pieces, students will explore:
- Fusing, gathering, blocking, jacking, shaping, transfer, and finishing
- Stained glass cutting and soldering
- Fused glass assembly, decorative techniques, firing, and basic slumping
- Safe practices in glass studio
- The use of appropriate vocabulary to evaluate and critique their own work and that of their peers

Assessment Methods for Course Learning Goals
- Works are assessed through critiques, based on the successful conceptualization, design, execution, and completion of specific assignments.
- Individual meetings with instructor are held to assess students' overall progress, artistic growth, and safe practices.
- Additional evaluative tools may include one or more of the following: performance-based tasks, discussions, exercises, written assignments, research-based reports, presentations, online activities, quizzes and/or exams.
