The application will be available from May 15 to July 15 for the following Spring Semester.

Advanced Placement Policy LPN


A few notes about applying to the clinical component in AD Nursing:

  • Anyone can apply. Application does not guarantee admission however, you cannot be accepted if you don’t apply. You do need to meet high school requirements and request a 2035 major. You must have completed the co-requisite courses listed in order to be eligible to challenge ADRN111.
  • There are no paper applications. You do not need an appointment with a nursing faculty member to apply.
  • Ask your assigned advisor for guidance.
  • Your application must be accurate. Please check your Student Planning Module for correct grades and information

Applications are reviewed and ranked by the following requirements:

  1. Hold a valid Pennsylvania Practical Nursing License (Licenses from other states will not be accepted);
  2. Be admitted to the College in the Nursing (2035) or Health Sciences (1108, Nurse Potential) Program of Study;
  3. Meet high school requirements;
  4. Have taken, or been granted a waiver for the reading, writing, and math assessment tests.
  5. Have a final, official high school transcript or a copy of the GED in the Admissions Office;
  6. Have a grade of B or better in BIOL181, BIOL182, and BIOL228 courses taken within the past 7 years;
  7. Have a grade of C or better in ADRN113/NURS220 and ADRN114/NURS121 courses taken within the past 5 years;
  8. Have a grade of C or better in ALL courses required in the Nursing Program of Study;
  9. Pre-requisite or co-requisite courses MUST BE COMPLETED AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION with a grade and time limit as documented below:
    • COLL101 - College Success Seminar (or waiver)
    • BIOL181 - Human Anatomy and Physiology I (Grade of B, within the past 7 years)
    • COMP110 – English Composition I (C or better)
    • HLTH120N - Nutrition (Grade of C, within the past 7 years)
    • ADRN110 – Introduction to Professional Nursing
  10. Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 at BCCC.
  11. Students who are Bucks County residents, have completed the highest number of credits in the Nursing Program of Study at BCCC with a final grade of C or better, will be considered first, after meeting all of the above criteria.

Challenge notifications are sent out in August by email to the applicants Bucks Email Account. Applicants are required to respond to the Director by the date outlined in the notification in order to be considered for the Challenge. The notification will include information on the time and date of the challenge exam.

If you have previously attended but did not graduate from an RN or LPN education program, please indicate on the application the name of the school(s) and the years attended. You also MUST request a letter of support to be sent from the school(s), stating that you were a student in good standing while at that school. This letter, on official school letterhead, may be mailed from that program to the Admission and Progression Committee, Associate Degree Nursing Program, Bucks County Community College, 275 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940 or emailed from that program to ADNursingDirector@bucks.edu. This letter must arrive, via mail or email, by the application deadline.

Advanced Placement

Advanced Placement is for Licensed Practical Nurses or applicants who have attended other nationally accredited associate or baccalaureate nursing degree programs 

Eligibility:

  1. LPNs are eligible for advanced placement if space is available.

Admission to the College and to the Nursing Program of Study: 

See Admission Requirements to the College and to the Nursing Program of Study, as well as the respective Advanced Placement Policy in the AD Nursing Student Handbook in effect during admission application timeframe.

Additional Admission Criteria:

  1. LPNs must provide proof of current Pennsylvania licensure, at time of application.
  2. LPNs will be required to have a standardized test score that meets the minimum criteria as outlined below:
    • ATI TEAS- must have a minimum Academic Preparedness Level of PROFICIENT on a test taken within one year prior to the application deadline, OR
    • SAT- must have a minimum total score of 980 on test taken within five years prior to the application deadline, OR
    • ACT- must have a minimum score of 20 on test taken within five years prior to the application deadline.
    • All applicants must have an official standardized test score sent directly from issuing institution (ATI, The College Board, ACT, or NLN), to our Registrar’s Office  by the application deadline and posted in the student planning module. If taken at BCCC, the applicant’s TEAS test score may be uploaded directly to the student planning module.
    • It is each applicant’s responsibility to verify the standardized test score has been received by our Registrar’s Office before the application deadline.

Placement in the Nursing Program 

  1. LPNs may challenge out of ADRN111 after completing all of the ADRN111 co-requisite courses and having all grades transcripted by the application deadline. If challenge is successful, conditional acceptance will be on a space available basis and in accordance with the program’s Conditional Acceptance Criteria.
  2. Criteria for Challenge of ADRN111/ Adult and Family Nursing includes completion of: 
    • COLL101 - College Success Seminar (or waiver)
    • BIOL181 - Anatomy and Physiology I with a Grade of B or better within the last 7 years
    • COMP110 - English Composition I (C or better)
    • HLTH120N - Nutrition
    • ADRN 110 - Introduction to Professional Nursing (EXCEPTION for the May 15, 2023 – July 15, 2023 application period ONLY: ADRN110 does not have to be completed at time of application but MUST be successfully completed by end of 23FA semester).
  3. Courses to be taken before or with ADRN112/ Adult and Family Nursing II 
    • ADRN113 - Health Assessment in Nursing (Grade of C or better, in the last 5 years)
    • BIOL182 - Human Anatomy & Physiology II (Grade of B or better, in the last 7 years)
    • BIOL228 - Microbiology (Grade of B or better, in the last 7 years)
  4. Courses to be taken with or before ADRN210/ Adult and Family Nursing III
    • ADRN114 - Pharmacology in Nursing (Grade of C or better, in the last 5 years)
    • COMP111 - English Composition II
    • PSYC110 - Introduction to Psychology
  5. Courses to be taken with or before ADRN211/ Adult and Family Nursing IV
    • ADRN212 - Transition into Nursing Practice
    • SOCI110 - Introduction to Sociology
    • Arts and Humanities Elective
