MATHEMATICS AREA POLICY FOR CALCULATOR USE
The Mathematics Area has established a policy for calculator use in each of its courses. A specific model and series of calculator has been selected for each course to insure that the capabilities of the calculator do not interfere with the course objectives and to make sure that one student does not have an undo advantage over another. Individual instructors may restrict the use of any calculator in their courses. This policy includes face to face classes, and e-learning classes. It also pertains to the Testing Centers at all three campuses and all proctored locations.
See the list below for the specific calculator that has been selected for each course.
Calculators are not permitted in the following courses:
- Math 090 Prealgebra
- Math 102 Mathematics for Educators I
- Math 105 Mathematics for Educators II
Courses with approved use of a TI 83 or TI 84 (any series)
- Math 115 Elementary Statistics
- Math 215 Elementary Statistics II
- Math 260 Linear Algebra
Note: To further clarify, any calculator with a built-in CAS (computer algebra system) or internet connectivity may not be used.
Calculators used in the following courses must be scientific, non-graphing calculators. The selected calculator for all courses below is a TI-30X IIS (note this is not part of the Multi View series for this calculator)
To clarify further, graphing calculators, multi view calculators, devices with internet connectivity, and calculators with a built-in CAS (computer algebra system) are not permitted.
