- This course provides an effective foundation for leadership skills employed in a crisis or disaster situation. It focuses on the understanding of group behavior, psychological response to crisis, crisis communication, and conflict resolution. The underlying factors in the development and mitigation of critical incident stress are explored.

The student will be able to:- Identify and describe different types of disasters;
- Identify and describe psychological and physiological response to disasters;
- Analyze the concept of crisis intervention, employee assistance, and critical incident stress debriefing;
- Explain the concept of Critical Incident Stress;
- Identify and describe the concept of crisis communication;
- Describe the importance of media relations and public reactions to disasters; and
- Identify and describe emergency worker stress.
