VI. Catalog Course Description
Students will study measured drawing procedures employed by the Historic American Building Survey (HABS) and apply them to local buildings. The course will include extensive field and drawing experience.
VII. Required Course Content and Direction
  1. Learning Goals:

    1. To introduce students to the Historical American Building Survey program
    2. To learn documentation techniques necessary for HABS drawings
    3. To utilize basic drafting skills in the process of drawing HABS work
    4. To produce a final product that meets HABS standards
  2. Planned Sequence of Topics and/or Learning Activities:

    1. Review of measuring techniques
    2. Overview of HABS guidelines for drawings and photos
    3. Team assignments and scheduling of logistics
    4. Site visit - orientation, prepare field sketches, take photos
    5. Site visit - measurement procedures
    6. Site visit - finalize work notes and details
    7. Drafting room - begin drawings
    8. Drafting room - continue drawings, note questions, visit site
    9. Drafting room -- complete corrections and finalize draft drawings
    10. Transfer drawings to mylar - title blocks, lettering, inking
    11. Complete drawings
