Catalog Course Description
This course is a study of the history of African-Americans from their origins in Africa to the present. Students examine the social, political, legal and economic history of the African-American community. Major topics include the impact of slavery, military service, and the Civil Rights Movement and Black Power Movement. -

Learning Goals:
- Course Students will:
- recount the history of Black Americans from the historic African background to the present day;
- demonstrate an understanding of the institution of slavery, particularly its social, legal, and political mechanics and its impact on the Black American community;
- evaluate the social, cultural, political, economic, legal and physical conditions of Black Americans throughout American history;
- analyze the experiences and conditions of Black Americans at war throughout American history; and
- evaluate the history of the Civil Rights Movement and Black Power Movement.
