This course fulfills the Personal Health Requirement in Category I: Essential Skills and Perspective and the Category III requirements of the Core for Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving. Departmental approved textbook required.
VI. Catalog Course Description
This introductory communication skills course helps students develop competencies in social and professional communication. Students engage in activities and assignments that focus on interactions in the workplace as well as in other social contexts.
VII. Required Course Content and Direction
  1. Learning Goals:

    2. Students will:
      1. demonstrate an understanding of concepts and principles of interpersonal communication;
      2. practice effective listening and conflict management skills;
      3. practice effective use of verbal and nonverbal elements in communication;
      4. demonstrate an understanding of sensitivity to gender and intercultural differences in communication; and
      5. demonstrate an understanding of the role of technology in interpersonal communication in the workplace and in other social contexts.
