  6. Catalog Course Description

    This course is an introduction to the technology of routed and switched networks. Topics include TCP/IP, WAN technologies, CISCO IOS, configuring routers and switches, VLANs, network management techniques, and routing IP traffic. Students will be given the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the laboratory.

        1. establish connectivity to the appropriate network device in order to complete the initial device configuration;
        2. determine network operational status and network performance via the command-line interface;
        3. build a functional access switch configuration to support the specified network operational parameters, including VLANs, VTP, and trunking;
        4. describe the features and operation of static and dynamic routing, including RIP, IGRP, EIGRP, and OSPF;
        5. configure standard and extended access lists; and
        6. configure serial interfaces using HDLC and PPP encapsulation for leased line connections.

  8. Teaching Methods Employed

    At least two hours per week will be devoted to presentation of text material and special projects. The remaining time will be used for extensive laboratory exercises and hands-on assignments.
