Degree- or certificate-seeking students registering for their sixth credit are required to take COLL101.


  1. Students in academic programs that provide alternative options to the course and that are approved for exemption by the Provost and Academic Deans.
  2. Students entering Bucks with a post-secondary degree or certificate from a comparably accredited institution.
  3. Students who have successfully completed 12 or more credits from a comparably accredited post-secondary institution with a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or greater.

Certain sections are targeted to specific cohorts, e.g. AESL and specific majors or disciplines.

Course materials are typically accessed using mobile devices. Students who do not own an appropriate device may borrow one from the Library.

VI. Catalog Course Description
Through self-exploration and group interaction, the seminar facilitates students' academic and social integration into the College community and helps build academic success strategies. Students gain knowledge of the College's resources, services, policies, and procedures, and explore various major and career opportunities to develop an academic plan.
VII. Required Course Content and Direction
  1. Course Learning Goals

    Students will:

    1. demonstrate understanding of the College's culture, policies, and procedures;
    2. develop strategies for academic success;
    3. identify and utilize College resources and opportunities that support their academic and co-curricular interests and goals;
    4. develop a comprehensive academic plan; and
    5. create an ePortfolio.
  2. Planned Sequence of Topics and/or Learning Activities

    Students will:

    1. college terminology and classroom expectations;
    2. BCCC's policies including academic policies, student code of conduct, campus regulations, and Title IX;
    3. the College's procedures for electronic communication, selection of, withdrawal from and registration for courses, change of major, and accessing College resources;
    4. calculation of GPA and the impact of GPA on academic status, financial aid eligibility, and transfer opportunities.
    5. the academic, personal, and social challenges of college, such as time management and student/faculty relationships, and available solutions;
    6. utilization of campus resources, such as Student Services, the Fitness Center, scholarships, and co-curricular activities that support academic and personal needs, interests, and goals;
    7. alignment of interests and abilities with specific majors and careers;
    8. transfer and career options;
    9. construction of a master plan to achieve academic goals that identifies career goal, academic major, course sequence, projected time frame for completion, and estimated cost; and
    10. creation of an ePortfolio that includes a personal profile and at least one project or assignment completed at BCCC.
  3. Assessment Methods for Course Learning Goals

    Course learning goals are assessed using discussions, journal entries, quizzes, ePortfolios, and performance-based tasks.
