Current Issues Affecting Our Youth Conference

Tues., November 8, 2011

Nurses, Counselors, Teachers and interested healthcare professions, come learn about issues that are facing our youth. This conference will include Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, Dating Abuse Awareness and Prevention, and proper reporting of suspected incidents of child abuse to child protective services and law enforcement.

  • 1 in 8 pregnant women report alcohol use in the past 30 days and 1 in 50 pregnant women report binge alcohol use in the past 30 days
  • Over 50% of pregnancies in the US are unplanned and over 54% of women of childbearing age report alcohol use during the past 30 days
  • At least 60% women don’t realize they are pregnant at 4 weeks gestation – a critical period of development
  • 1 in 3 young adults will experience abuse in a dating relationship – more than 2/3 will never report it to anyone.
