Wood Studio Access RFNRT 9017 C01
Registration for this Wood Studio Access provides access to the wood shop during supervised open shop hours. Schedule is available upon request and subject to change, but is posted in advance.
This allows access to the woodshop facilities in the Hicks Art Center and is dependent on successful completion of VAFW100 or the equivalent for safety purposes.
Once registered, you are permitted to come anytime within the following schedule:

This course is for beginner sewers. You will learn all about the sewing machine parts, stiches, fabrics, and much more while creating 3 sewing projects. Instructor: Judith Hodnett
We will sew three fun projects:
You will sew a large travel bag for toiletries, a medium make-up bag and a small jewelry bag.
This small materials list will need to be brought with you to class.

Sewing for Beginners Materials List
- ½ yard cotton main fabric
- ½ yard cotton lining fabric
- Matching thread
- 1 yard of lightweight iron-on interfacing
- 1 package of 24 inch by ¾ inch sew-in Velcro.
- Fabric scissors
The instructor will supply the pins, rulers, and pencils.

GETTING THE PERFECT SHOT RFNRT 2585 C01

Get an in-depth view of camera operation, basic and effects driven photographic technique and image composition. Your instructor, Thomas, will elevate your skills whether you are a beginner or more experienced. Sessions will cover optimum baseline camera set-up, the effects of various settings’ influence on your images, design of image content, the influence of color, workflow organization to maintain control of your image files. This is a learn-as-you-go course, designed to fill the gaps in your knowledge and skill base starting from ground zero. The sessions will move at a pace dependent on the class-wide understanding and work accomplished. Each week we will be reviewing student images as a group, learning from each other’s work output as well as why and how to elevate the skill sets going forward.
Weather permitting and student interest, some sessions will be scheduled for shooting field trips, any-and-all would be locally based off campus. These field trips are to implement and practice newly acquired shooting techniques. Additionally, we will also visit local photographic exhibitions to expand and encourage each student’s intake of the photographic community. Weekend Art Workshops
Turn A Tripod Stool RFNRT 9014 C01
4/13 & 4/14 10:00am - 5:00pm
Design and make a sweet and simple small tripod stool using a wide variety of traditional woodturning and woodworking techniques. Both faceplate turning and turning between centers will be used to produce its parts on the lathe, and machine and hand skills will be used to construct off the lathe. Design possibilities are endless with this template, and you will leave with a unique, handcrafted, functional piece of furniture, as well as exposure to a whole suite of skills including spindle joinery and fitting, paper joining, sacrificial work holding, layout work, through tenon joinery, and much more. All levels are welcome, including beginners.
Attendees should wear shop-safe clothing. Closed-toed shoes, no loose dangling clothing or jewelry, long hair tied back. Students can bring their own tools if preferred, and a bottle of water.
