Credit for Prior Learning

The Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) Program can help you attain equivalent credit for the college-level learning you have achieved outside the traditional college classroom. PLA can save you time and money because you may not be required to take courses for the material you have already learned. Follow the steps below before registering for classes. Note that equivalent credit is not awarded for experience, but for learning that matches a particular course in your Bucks Program of Study.

Digital Badges

Digital badges capture and communicate an accomplishment of some kind. Sometimes referred to as micro-credentials, digital badging provides a framework in which to document knowledge, skills, and competencies gained through various learning and professional development opportunities.

A digital badge has four basic elements:

  • Icon designed to convey basic information about the badge achievement,
  • Metadata embedded in the badge that contains detailed information about who issued the badge, what the criteria were for earning it when it was earned, keyword tags, evidence, and any other relevant information to convey the value of the certification,
  • A trusted issuer such as an academic department representative; and a
  • Display platform that allows badges to be viewed, verified and managed.

Internships

Bucks County Community College recognizes that there are important elements of business and industry that cannot adequately be taught within the confines of the laboratory or classroom at the College. Bucks offers students an Internship Program opportunity through a partnership between the Center for Student Employment and Career Development and the Department of the student’s Program of Study. The goal of this Internship Program is to provide the student with on-the-job experiences supervised by successful, experienced professionals. This experience shall directly support the development of a student’s career path. The employer shall gain a reliable, flexible, and enthusiastic potential employee while assisting in the student’s career preparation goals.
