Bucks County Community College's newest published professor, Sarahlyn Bruck, debuted her novel Designer You October 24on the Newtown campus.
Bruck, who teaches literature and composition, has been at the at the public, two-year college since 2008. Her debut novel was published in late August through Crooked Cat Books.
Designer You follows the narrator, Pam, who becomes a young widow after her husband dies in a freak accident. Pam must try to save the couple’s DIY business and repair her relationship with her grieving daughter in the aftermath of her husband’s death.
Language and Literature Department Dean Nicole Tracey pointed out that Bucks students benefit from faculty who are actively practicing the craft that they teach.
“When professors publish a piece of their own work, it is not only an accomplishment for them, but a wonderful opportunity for their students to see how the work done in class translates into the real world,” said Tracey. “It helps students understand the value of writing and the creative process, transforming seemingly anonymous authors into approachable people who can share how they crafted their work, including both the struggles and victories that allowed them to reach this impressive pinnacle.”
Bruck lives in Philadelphia with her husband and daughter, and their dog, Jazzy.
