No entrance exams are required. Course times are scheduled year-round to be compatible with your work commitments. Each course meets online for ten weeks. Discussions using an online bulletin board afford the opportunity to examine everyday construction challenges shared by others in the construction industry.  All certificates should be completed within two years of starting the program.

Students will develop an awareness of installation techniques for horizontal and vertical concrete, uses for tilt-up and precast concrete. This course Contract Documents and Construction Law STP Unit 4 online course focuses on understanding the relationship between contract documents and the construction process. We will explore contractual relationships, legal roles and responsibilities, and contract types. Legal issues will be studied including regulatory issues, liens, bonds, insurance, and how standardized forms are used. General conditions clauses that affect levels of decision making authority, project close-out and the superintendents role as agent of the contractor will be studied. We will study legal issues that often result in construction disputes including differing site conditions, time and schedule impacts, change orders and changed conditions.  We will also study contract dispute resolution including negotiations, alternative dispute resolutions, and litigation of disputes.

Planning and Scheduling ETMCO 2005 C30

Students will learn how to plan, prepare and update construction project schedules in this course. Students will study construction planning and will practice preparing a project plan.

Through the use of case studies we will guide you in the process of how to define construction activities, determine activity duration, and assemble the activities into a logical construction schedule. Students will learn to create and use bar charts and critical path schedules.

Methods for communication of the project plan will be applied in work shop type activities. Students will study the use of computers in construction scheduling and investigate some of the popular scheduling programs currently in use. Other topics to be studies will include: assigning constraints, inputting resources, formatting options, sorting and filtering. Updating the schedule and the use of short interval production schedules will be stressed. Applying scheduling information to change orders, payment schedules and acceleration situations will be studied.
