Bucks Online 25th Anniversary
Bucks County Community College launched its first distance education courses in Fall of 1994 using telecourses and CD-Roms. Keeping pace with the progress of technology, in just a few years distance education quickly evolved into online education. The milestones below encapsulate the growth of our virtual campus, Bucks Online, as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Timeline
1994 – Bucks offers its first distance education courses, 6 courses/137 students
1997 – Two Programs of Study available via Distance Education
1998 – First online learning management system used, AltaVista Forum
2001 – Online tutoring available to all students
2003 – Middle States Commission on Higher Education includes distance education programs within the scope of the College’s accreditation
2004 – Bucks joins Quality Matters
2009 – Librarians are embedded in online courses
2011 – Bucks Online staff receive the Instructional Technology Council’s national award for Outstanding Student Services
2014 – Virtual advising available to all students
2015 – The College is granted membership in NC-SARA easing the ability to offer courses and programs in all states
2019 – Bucks Online 25th Anniversary! – over 300 online courses, 21 online programs, more than 8,000 students per year in 41 states
