- This course provides early childhood educators with the essential background for teaching music to young children. Course content includes the pedagogy of teaching singing, basic instrument playing, listening, rhythm and movement to young children via developmentally appropriate activities.

Course Learning Goals
Students will:
- demonstrate an understanding of basic singing, instrument playing, listening, rhythm and movement;
- construct and execute lesson plans for instruction in a simulated classroom setting; and
- apply the techniques of basic singing, instrument playing, listening, rhythm and movement as an instructor in a simulated early childhood learning environment.

- techniques of basic singing, instrument playing, listening, rhythm and movement
- practice of rudimentary singing, instrumental, and rhythmic activities
- development of a repertoire of songs and musical activities for the teaching of basic singing, instrument playing, listening, rhythm and movement to children
- creation of lessons plans for instruction in basic singing, instrument playing, listening, rhythm and movement and their practical applications
- execution of lesson plans using peers in a classroom setting to simulate an early childhood learning environment

Assessment Methods for Course Learning Goals
The instructor assesses student competency in basic singing, instrument playing, listening, rhythm, movement, and their respective practical applications via written, aural, oral and performance-based methods. The instructor evaluates lesson plans in terms of their content, organization, presentation, and overall effectiveness. Assessment must include a final comprehensive examination and project. -
