Courses

All journalism classes are held in our state-of-the-art student newspaper newsroom. Outside class, you'll hit the streets to cover real stories. In the editing course you'll learn to use QuarkXpress layout software, which is used by newspapers across the country.

JOUR175 NEWS REPORTING AND WRITING

You'll learn how to write a news story and dig up information using the Internet and other methods. But you won't just sit in class - you'll get out into the college and the community to cover stories for The Centurion. PREREQUISITE: COMP107 CO-REQUISITE: COMP110

JOUR275 NEWSPAPER EDITING AND PAGE LAYOUT

You'll learn how to edit stories, write headlines and do layout with QuarkXpress software. Students in this class are actively involved in producing The Centurion. PREREQUISITE: JOUR175

JOUR276 FEATURE WRITING FOR NEWSPAPERS & MAGAZINES

Learn how to write longer articles - everything from profiles to news features - for both newspapers and magazines. Students produce Currents, an online student magazine. PREREQUISITE: JOUR175

JOUR277 PUBLIC AFFAIRS REPORTING

Students in our advanced reporting class cover town government and school board meetings, trials and the police beat. Reporters from local papers visit the class to talk about their jobs. PREREQUISITE: JOUR175 

JOUR280 INTERNSHIP FOR CREDIT

Selected students can earn college credit by doing a part-time internship at the Bucks County Courier Times. See instructor for details.
