Math 090 with grade of C, or score of 3 on Placement Test
The first objective of this course is to provide you with an understanding of Algebra and the skills necessary to take additional math courses. This course also stresses the logic involved in both Algebra and life. The second objective is to increase your awareness of how personal habits and attitudes influence your success in this class, in other classes and in your employment.

1. add, subtract, multiply and divide signed numbers. 2. simplify algebraic expressions by distributive property and combining like terms 3. solve linear equations and use linear equations to solve applications. 4. add, subtract, multiply polynomials and divide polynomials by monomials. 5. factor simple polynomials and solve quadratic equations by factoring. 6. add, subtract, multiply and divide rational expressions. 7. graph a linear equation. 8. find the slope of a line. 9. evaluate and simplify radicals, specifically square roots

There will be 8 online quizzes, online graded homework, a proctored midterm and a proctored final exam. The midterm and final exam will be taken at the testing center on campus. The quizzes will be weighted 50%, homework, 10%; the midterm, 20%; and the final exam, 20%. Your numerical grade will be converted to a letter grade as found in the College Catalog. You should plan to take the midterm no later than March 15, 2009 and the final no later than May 11, 2009.
I will not withdraw you from class. If you are not continuing with this class, you must complete an official withdraw form that can be obtained in the Admissions office. Please check the college catalog for dates specific to the semester in which you are enrolled.
I am available to help you in any way that I can. Also, there are instructional assistants and peer tutors in the Tutoring Center, L121, to provide additional help. There is supplemental material on reserve in the Library, including videotapes, audiotapes and books on Math Anxiety.
