MY MODEL "A" FORD

In December 1927, the Ford Automobile Company introduced the Model "A" Ford. The Model "A" was produced until the end of 1931. About 5 million Model "A" cars, vans and trucks were made.

I am one of many thousand Model "A" enthusiasts. Ford produced several types and offered different color combinations.

My car is a Town Sedan, a more expensive choice at that time. It has a body by the Murray Body Company. It was made in 1930.

This is what my car looked like when I bought it in Pottstown,PA in August 2006. Black paint had been sprayed and brushed over peeling old paint and there were a few small dents. The car seemed about 90% rust free and the engine sounded OK.

An unusual feature is the dealer tag attached to the fire wall. The numbers on the right indicate the car was sold on June 21, 1930. The number on the left is the same as the one on the engine block.

The paint was removed by media blasting and hand sanding. Dents, scratches and minor pitting were repaired. Small rust-through areas at bottom of each cowl panel were filled in with "Bondo."

All of the body work and the paint job was done by Chris Boone of Pipersvile, PA. He can be reached at 267-614-1788.

I installed the interior. It came as a kit made by Cartouche. The Town Sedan had a deluxe interior which included a folding center arm rest, assist straps, rear window shades and a dome light.

The metal dashboard and interior window frames were grain painted "mahagony" by artist, Suzane Lamariana of Chalfont, PA who can be reached at 215-997-2693.

The final touch was to have a red "pin stripe" hand painted as was the original. That was expertly done by Dennis Smith of Hampton, NJ. He can be reached at 908-730-7535.

Chris Boone did a beautiful paint job. The colors chosen were close to one of the original choices, "Ford Maroon" and black with a red pin stripe. This car was not a "ground up" restoration. It is a "driver" and is taken on short drives two or three times a week. The only modern modifications are turn signals and seat belts.
