LIECHTENSTEIN

The Principality of Liechtenstein is one of the smallest nations in Europe. It is barely 7 miles from east to west and 14 miles from north to south.

This tiny nation is tucked in between eastern Switzerland and western Austria. It is a constitutional monarchy ruled by a prince.

There are about 32,500 people living in 11 towns. The largest, Vaduz, is the capital. Almost 40% of the people are nationals of other countries.

These views look north from Balzers on the southern border with Switzerland.

Liechtenstein descends from Alpine peaks to the Rhine river valley. In this view looking south, Liechtenstein is to the left of the Rhine River.

Vaduz, the capital is where the Prince's palace is located. You can see it half way up the mountain. It contains one of the finest art collections still in private hands.
