Students will present a speech of
8 to 10 minutes which informs the audience about some object,
concept, or event. (See Chapter 14 in the text.)

speech should be more “academic” than your first speech and should
require some research. |

Students
will present this speech extemporaneously from a brief speaking
outline either on no more than 3 pages (one side only) one side of one page or
10 note cards. (up to 5”x8”, one side only)

Students
are also required to use at least two visual aids including (but not
limited to):

Overhead
projections |

Slides |
 |
Video
clips (no longer than 1 minute) |
 |
Poster
boards, handouts |
 |
PowerPoint
presentation including at least two visual elements (pictures, graphics,
charts, etc. |

Any
object (prop) that will help to present their topic (be creative!)

Topic Paper
Students will submit a TYPED
Topic Paper, which should include
 | A working title for your speech.
|
 | A brief summary of the
Topic of their speech (one or two sentences).
|
 | See above for due date.

What you need to hand in on the day of your speech:
- Topic Paper, with
instructor comments (which you handed in before)
- Complete Preparation Outline,
TYPED and in the proper format. (See Handout or
pp. 238-243 in Text) This should include:

A
Title for your speech (be creative)

Specific
Purpose statement
-
Central
Idea
-
Detailed
Outline (in standard outline format)
-
Bibliography
(MLA
format) including at least 3 sources.
- Speaking Outline or Note
Cards that you used during the speech. (See Handout or pp. 246-249 in
text)
- Audio-Visual Aids that you
used during your speech. (Handouts, Overhead Transparencies, PowerPoint
(copy on 3 ½” disk, 100 MB Zip disk or CD-R)

Be
prepared on the day of your speech, as there will be no time to reschedule
speeches.

you need any AV equipment, please let me know so that I can reserve it for
the day of your speech.
