Bucks Graduates 54 Students from Practical Nursing Program

 

Many will step into well-paying jobs as Licensed Practical Nurses at healthcare facilities throughout the region

Graduate Practical Nurses with instructorsWhile many healthcare institutions struggle with a shortage of nurses, Bucks County Community College graduated more than four dozen students from its practical nursing program Thursday, July 2. The 54 Graduate Practical Nurses, who are poised to become Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) upon completion of state licensing exams, will find their skills in high demand.

Graduate Practical NursesMembers of the practical nursing class of 2009 represent the diversity of the health-care industry. In addition to the U.S. and Puerto Rico, they hail from nine other countries: Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Kenya, India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Russia, Uzbekistan, and Belarus. Graduates completed a 12-month full-time program that included clinical rotations in settings such as gerontology, medical-surgical nursing, psychiatric-social rehabilitation, and maternal-child health.   

Since Bucks began offering the Practical Nursing program in 2002, nearly 300 students have graduated. The program is fully approved by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.  For more information, visit www.bucks.edu/healthcare or call 215-968-8316.
