Testing

A number of Online Learning classes require that students take their tests in a secure, proctored environment.  For those living within or near to Bucks county, proctored testing services are available free of charge on a walk-in basis at the Newtown Campus, the Bristol Center, and the Upper County Campus.  Alternatives are available for those unable to travel to a campus.

The specific days and hours for testing services at the Newtown and branch campuses vary by semester.  Semester schedules are usually announced about one week before a semester begins.

If your course uses a learning management system, such as CE6 or Course Compass, then before coming to one of the Testing Center locations make sure you know how to access your test within that system. Please contact your instructor prior to coming to the testing center if you are unsure, as the instructor may not have provided the Testing Center with that information.

Depending on what your instructor's requirements are, the following may be available for your use:

NEWTOWN CAMPUS
Online Learning and Make-Up testing is on a walk-in basis.  Appointments are not taken.  The Testing Center closes at the times listed below.  Arrive in time to complete testing before closing time.  A photo ID is required to test (e.g. drivers license).  Students must make arrangements for Make-Up Testing through their course instructor.

Proctored testing is available at the Newtown Campus on a walk-in basis, 12 months a year (excluding holidays).

The Testing Center has moved to its new home in Rollins 100! To find our new location:

  • Ascend the steps in Rollins Center toward the cafeteria
  • Turn right and go past the ATM
  • Turn left at the next hallway. The new center is on your right down the hallway.

NORTHEASTERN PA. COUNTY LOCATIONS
Testing is accomplished through a variety of methods depending on the course and the instructor. Some courses have tests which may be taken at home. Others require proctoring and may require you to propose a suitable proctor to your instructor or visit testing centers set up in your area. If you have a question about the testing techniques for a particular course, call the instructor listed with that course or your county coordinator:

Bradford County Various sites and times are available.
Students should call Tom Yonkin at 717-882-9469,
or email: yonkint@bucks.edu
Pike County Various sites and times are available.
Area Coordinator to be announced.
Tioga County Various sites and times are available.
Students should call Dennis Colegrove at 814-258-5800,
or email: colegrov@bucks.edu
Wayne County Various sites and times are available.
Area Coordinator to be announced.

FOR STUDENTS UNABLE TO TRAVEL TO A TESTING CENTER, the instructor may offer the student the option of proposing an alternative proctor. A proctor is an individual who agrees to receive the tests from the student's instructor, administer them in an approved environment and return them to the instructor. The proctor must verify that the student completed the test according to the specific directions of the instructor. Instructors have the option to accept or reject the proposed proctor.  Examples of individuals who may be eligible to serve as proctors are:

  • College or university personnel such as deans, department chairs, professors, librarians, or testing center personnel.
  • Public or private school personnel such as superintendents, principals, guidance counselors, teachers.
  • Other personnel such as civil service examiners, military officers, or Sylvan Learning Center personnel.

Relatives and friends, regardless of their position, are not permitted to act as proctors.

A form for such a proposal is available from the Online Learning Office, 215-968-8052, or may be printed out from this website.
