Prior Learning Assessment (PLA)

Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) offers the possibility of receiving equivalent college credit for knowledge that has been gained outside the traditional classroom.

Students should recognize that:

1. Equivalent college credit is usually useful when the credit is a required part of a major or certificate program.

2. Equivalent credit is not automatically accepted by transfer schools; anyone planning to transfer should research this matter in advance with the transfer school(s) concerned.

There are various methods of earning college credit for Prior Learning Experience by eligible candidates, including taking challenge exams and preparing a detailed portfolio.
