Bucks Live! Presents Gypsy Guitarist Joscho Stephan and his Trio
Young German musician brings his innovative style to the Zlock Performing Arts Center Thursday, September 14.
Bucks County Community College, which has been bringing innovative musical performers to the region for more than 50 years, proudly launches the fall series of Bucks Live! events with the Joscho Stephan Trio at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, September 14.
Stephan’s roots lie in Gypsy Swing music, the style pioneered in the 1930s by the legendary jazz guitarist Django Reinhardt. Stephan has not merely absorbed this music, but also interprets it on the highest level and is actively engaged in extending its boundaries. The young German musician, who began playing guitar at age six, performs with a stand-up bass player and rhythm guitar player to round out the trio.
Stephan will offer a free masterclass from 3 to 4 p.m. The concert follows at 7:30 p.m. that evening. General admission tickets are only $10, and free for Bucks County Community College students with current ID.
In addition, a limited number of VIP tickets are available for $15, which includes a preconcert reception to meet the musicians. The reception, which begins at 6 p.m., includes light hors d’oeuvres, two glasses of wine or beer, and reserved seating. VIP ticketholders must be age 21 or older.
Tickets can be purchased online at www.bucks.edu/tickets or at the door. Both the masterclass and concert take place in the Kevin and Sima Zlock Performing Arts Center, located within the Gateway Center building on the campus at 275 Swamp Rd., Newtown, Pa., 18940. Parking is free. The auditorium is equipped with audio-loop technology for the hearing impaired.
The Joscho Stephan Trio is part of the Bucks Live! series of innovative programs to inform, inspire, and enrich the life of greater Bucks County, brought to you by Bucks County Community College’s Cultural Affairs Committee. Forthcoming musical events include the Monday Blues Orchestra on October 5, guitarist Charlie Hunter on November 3, and a holiday music concert by the Hickory Brass Band on December 14.
