Bucks County Community College, Faculty Union Reach Contract Agreement
The 4-year contract was ratified by the Bucks County Community College Federation of Teachers; Board of Trustees to vote Sept. 14.
Bucks County Community College and the Bucks County Community College Federation of Teachers AFT Local 2238 have reached an agreement on a four-year contract, college officials announced Tuesday, August 29.
Federation members have ratified the contract, which covers approximately 160 full-time and 500 part-time employees, said Professor John Strauss, union president.
Negotiations had begun in January. The tentative agreement was reached earlier this month, union members had a week to review the contract, and the ratification vote took place last week.
Both sides said the negotiations were professional and productive.
“The college appreciates the federation’s ability to maintain a focused and positive approach toward reaching this agreement,” said Stephanie Shanblatt, Ph.D., Bucks County Community College President. “All proposals were seriously considered, and representatives on both sides felt that they were heard.”
“It was an extremely constructive process from the start,” Strauss added. “Therefore, we were able reach a contract that the faculty voted overwhelmingly to ratify.”
The full Board of Trustees will vote on the agreement at its next public meeting on Thursday, September 14. The contract will be retroactive to August 15, and expires August 14, 2021.
