Line of Swords Brings New York-Style Jazz to Newtown

Trio offers free master class and concert Thu. Feb. 20 at Bucks County Community College.

Catch the latest innovations from the New York City jazz scene without leaving Bucks County when Line of Swords performs at Bucks County Community College Thursday, February 20.

The group will offer a free master class from 4:30 to 6 p.m., followed by a free concert from 7:30 to 9 p.m.  The trio features Josh Roseman (pictutred, left) on trombone, Ben Monder on 6-string electric bass, and Rudy Royston on drums.

Line of Swords has been described as “a trio of energy generators converging to test the bounds of a small group setting.” The instrumentation ranges from the monophonic “slow brass” of the trombone, to the polyphonic octave harmonies of the 6-string bass, to the diverse timbre palette of drums and cymbals.

“I had the need to explore the unique colors generated at the dynamic and harmonic threshold of the music at its breaking point, along with a range of insoluble, and seemingly impossible parameters which were presenting themselves as power sources at the core of my music, “ says Roseman on the band’s genesis.

The events take place in the Presser Music Room, located in the Music and Multimedia Center on the campus at 275 Swamp Rd., Newtown, Pa., 18940. Admission and parking are free.

Line of Swords is brought to you by the college’s Cultural Programming Committee. For more information, contact Professor Jeff  Baumeister at or 215-968-8135.
