Tasting for Tyler Celebrates 25 Years of Festive Fundraising

To mark the milestone, guests may enjoy tethered hot-air balloon rides during the event Friday June 7.

The Bucks County Community College Foundation proudly presents the 25th Annual Tasting for Tyler (formerly Tyler Tasting Party) from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Friday June 7 in historic Tyler Hall on the Newtown campus.

The fundraiser, which has become one of Bucks County’s premiere food and wine events, features more than 30 restaurants, wineries, caterers, and bakeries throughout the first floor of the mansion and its formal gardens.

New participants this year are the Black Horse Tavern, Concerto Fusion Cuisine, Corner Bakery Café, Greenstraw Smoothies, Hamilton’s Grill Room, Irish Rover Station House, O’Neill’s Catering, Rosa Bianca, Steam Pub, the Tea Can Company, and Wycombe Publick House. Fresh flowers and live music make it a feast for the eyes and ears as well.

To celebrate the event’s silver anniversary, from 6 to 8 p.m., guests will have the opportunity to take a ride in a hot air balloon that will be tethered on site. What’s more, a professional auctioneer will solicit bids on vacation destinations, spas, restaurant gift certificates, Phillies tickets, and other items. In addition, a silent auction will feature hand-crafted jewelry, gift cards, and other indulgences.

The event raises funds for Historic Preservation scholarships and the restoration of Tyler Hall, the 83-year-old French-Norman mansion which served as the home of banker George F. Tyler and his wife, sculptress and patron of the arts Stella Elkins Tyler. The building became the cornerstone of Bucks County Community College when the two-year public college opened in 1965. The 60-room mansion was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. To date, the Tyler Tasting Party has raised more than a half-million dollars for restoration projects and scholarships.

Tasting for Tyler is made possible through presenting sponsor First National Bank and Trust Co. of Newtown for the 12th consecutive year, and the work of a 20-person committee of volunteers.  Other corporate sponsors are Comcast, Gasper Landscape Design & Construction, KCBA Architects, Newtown Rental Center, Stark & Stark, and Video Gold Productions.  Free valet parking is available through a generous donation from Lawrence Lexus.

Tasting for Tyler takes place from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Friday June 7 on the campus at 275 Swamp Road, Newtown, Pa., 18940. Tickets are $125 each; purchase five tickets and get the sixth free. Tickets can be purchased online at www.bucks.edu/foundation, by calling the BCCC Foundation at 215-968-8224, or by e-mail at foundation@bucks.edu.
