Nearly 200 Firefighters Graduate from Certification Training
Volunteers from companies across the state were honored for completing six months of intense fire and rescue training
Bucks County Community College’s Public Safety Training Center honored 194 volunteer firefighters who completed an intense certification program with a June 17 ceremony at the college’s Newtown campus. The students trained eight hours a week for six months – or 16 hours a week for three months – to earn Firefighter I or Firefighter II certification.

Three generations of firefighters were present at the ceremony. Carole Miller (center), an EMT in Silverdale, received an achievement award for completing Firefighter 1 Certification. She’s congratulated by her father Joe Deangelis, a firefighter with the Bristol Consolidated Fire Co., and her daughter Gentilina Miller, an EMT and firefighter with Silverdale. Miller’s son is also a firefighter.
Firefighters from the first-ever accelerated certification program, who trained 16 hours a week for three months, celebrate their achievement.
