Leading voice in the prosecution of war crimes presents free lecture Wed., November 4, at Newtown

David SwansonThe Wordsmiths Reading Series at Bucks County Community College presents David Swanson, author of Daybreak: Undoing the Imperial Presidency and Forming a More Perfect Union, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 4. The event is free and open to the public.

Swanson, who served as press secretary for Dennis Kucinich’s 2004 presidential campaign and has been a leading voice for the prosecution of war crimes, will discuss “What are the Challenges Facing America? – A Writer’s Search to Speak Truth to Power.”

Swanson was one of those responsible for revealing the Downing Street memos documenting a commitment by the Bush administration to the war in Iraq prior to September 11. He later cofounded AfterDowningStreet.org.

Marjorie Cohn, president of the National Lawyers Guild, calls Daybreak “a useful guide to restore the balance of powers and reclaim our constitutional system of government.”

Swanson, John Nichols notes, “will be remembered and well-recognized as the citizen who held up a lamp in the darkness and cried, as did good Tom Paine, ‘We have it in our power to begin the world over again.’”

Swanson’s talk, which is sponsored in cooperation with the Buxmont Coalition for Peace, takes place in the Fireside Lounge, located in the lower level of the Rollins Student Center on the campus at 275 Swamp Rd., Newtown, Pa., 18940.
