Eligibility for Graduation
Each semester the Office of Admissions, Records, and Registration identifies the students who may be completing their Associate Degree. Any student, who will have completed 60 or more credits by the end of a specific semester, is considered a potential graduate. To be entitled to graduate you must:
- Fulfill all of the requirements for your Program of Study
- Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher
- Have completed at least 30 credits here at Bucks
You will receive a Notification of Potential Graduation Eligibility email to your Bucks email account around mid-term (fall and spring semesters). If you are not eligible you will receive a letter informing you that your evaluation was reviewed and that we found you do not meet the requirements for graduation.
You can review your Academic Evaluation on our website, www.bucks.edu. Click on Web Advisor and follow the steps out-lined. After you review your Academic Evaluation, and if you have any questions, please contact your academic advisor.
The Office of Admissions, Records, and Registration also identifies every student enrolled in a certificate program and reviews their records for potential program completion. However, many students complete a certificate program while they are actively enrolled in an Associate Degree program, or complete two certificate programs at the same time. In this case, the student should contact Gladys York, Graduation Specialist, to ensure that your certificate(s) is awarded correctly and in a timely manner. This May, the Commencement Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Bucks County Community College, Newtown Campus. The ceremony is set to begin at 6:00pm, and will be held in the gymnasium.
Who can participate in the graduation ceremony?
- Any student who graduated the previous August or January
- Any student who anticipates graduation this May
- Any student who will complete program requirements during the upcoming summer sessions
Cap and Gown Information
Bucks graduates wear royal blue caps and gowns with a black hood. In order to attend the commencement ceremony, students must order a cap and gown. Ordering your cap and gown will identify you as a student who will be participating in the Commencement Ceremony. If you intend to participate in the Commencement Ceremony, but will be using a cap and gown of a family member who already graduated from Bucks, please notify Gladys York, Graduation Specialist, at Gladys.York@bucks.edu or 215-968-8118. All candidates for degrees must wear caps and gowns. The tassel of the cap is worn on the right side by one who does not yet hold a degree. The tassel is moved to the left side after the President of the college confers the degrees.
Where do I place my order for a cap and gown?
Place your cap and gown order online at www.herffjones.com/college/bucks. You can choose to pick up your cap and gown up at the Lower Bucks, Newtown, or Upper Bucks campus. Please be sure to fill in all of the requested information – especially your height and weight data since this is how Herff Jones determines the correct size gown to send you. All orders for the May 18, 2017, graduation ceremony must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2017. The website to order cap and gown will close on Monday, April 3, 2017.
Students can also place their diploma and cap and gown orders in-person at the following locations:
- Newtown Campus, Office of Admissions, Records, and Registration (Monday-Friday 8:30am-4:30pm and Wednesday evenings until 7:00pm)
- Lower Bucks Campus, Front Desk (Monday-Thursday, 8:30am-7:00pm and Friday, 8:30am-4:00pm)
- Upper Bucks Campus, North Desk (Monday-Thursday, 8:00am-8:00pm and Friday 8:00am-4:00pm)
Note: there are no evening hours between semesters or during breaks
What is the fee for a cap and gown?
There is a cap and gown fee of $10.00. Students ordering on-line through Herff Jones must submit credit card payment at the time of the order. Students ordering their cap and gown in person at one of our campuses will not need to make payment when the order is placed. We will notify Student Accounts that an order has been placed and they will post the charges to your account. You may then make you payment through Bucks Self-Service, in person at Student Accounts, or by mailing your check or money order to BCCC Student Accounts, 275 Swamp Road, Newtown, PA 18940. Please make sure that you put your name and ID number on your check or money order.
Where do I pick up my cap and gown?
When ordering your cap and gown, you must indicate where you want to pick up your cap and gown. Students must go to their chosen destination to pick up their cap and gown on Monday, May 8 or Tuesday, May 9:
- Newtown Campus, Office of Admissions, Records and Registration, Linksz Pavilion; 9:00am-8:00pm
- Lower Bucks Campus, Front Desk; 7:30am-7:00pm
- Upper Bucks Campus, North Building Front Desk; 7:30am-10:00pm
Candidates must return, or account for satisfactorily, any items withdrawn from the college library and clear all outstanding financial obligations to the college before graduation. Candidates who have been certified for graduation but whose accounts are not clear will not receive their diploma until their accounts are clear.
