A diagnosis of autism is often devastating for parents. This course will provide an overview of autism spectrum disorders, including prevalence, etiology, diagnosis, and treatment. In addition, information will be provided on working with schools and the development of Individual Education Plans. Appropriate discipline techniques at home will also be addressed. Finally, the main message is that there is hope for these kids and parents. With early intervention, many of these children can excel in both the social and academic realms.
