Networking and Computer Concepts


The student will learn basic application software, peripheral devices, and an overview of networking technologies. Software installation is included along with PC maintenance and troubleshooting. This course serves as an excellent foundation for the Net+ and/or A+ certification courses.

Cisco Firewall Specialist

Cisco security certifications focus on the growing need for knowledgeable network professionals who can implement complete security solutions. Cisco Firewall Specialists focus on securing network access using Cisco IOS Software and Cisco PIX / (ASA) Adaptive Security Appliance Firewall Technologies. Courses are as follows:

Network Security 1

This course focuses on the overall security processes in a network with particular emphasis on hands on skills in the following areas:

  • Security policy design and management
  • Security technologies, products and solutions
  • Firewall and secure router design, installation, configuration, and maintenance
  • AAA implementation using routers and firewalls

Network Security 2

Target Certifications (Cisco Firewall Specialist)

After completing Network Security 1 AND the Network Security 2 course, students will be prepared to take the Securing Networks with Cisco Routers and Switches (SNRS) (Exam # TBA) and Securing Networks with PIX and ASA (SNPA) Security (Exam # TBA) Certification exams. These are two of the five exams that count towards Cisco Certified Security Professional (CCSP) certification. In addition, Networking Academy students who pass these two exams will be able to apply for Cisco Firewall/ASA Specialist status.

Web Development & Design

 

Dreamweaver Overview

Students learn how to use Dreamweaver to create, design and update Web pages. Students will learn to modify page properties, define headings and paragraphs; create lists and special characters. The student will also learn page formatting using CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). In addition, they will learn how to create templates, forms and rollovers, draw layers, modify layer properties, embed a Flash movie and apply behaviors, create templates, forms, and rollovers.

Prerequisites: Students will need to have basic computer knowledge that includes the ability to edit and modify files using Windows Exploring and My Computer. Proficiency using the WWW and Internet is highly recommended.

Introduction to ASP.NET and VisualBasic.NET 2005

This course provides an introduction to Microsoft's .Net technologies including Visual Basic.NET and ASP.NET. Students will learn the basics of the Visual Basic.NET development language by designing and creating dynamic web sites in Microsoft Visual Studio.NET 2005. In addition, this course will teach students how to develop ASP.NET user controls, access XML web services, validate user input, and access data using ADO.NET. By the end of the course, the student will be able to design and develop robust web applications in Microsoft's leading programming technology.

Prerequisites: Some knowledge of Visual Basic and/or equivalent programming language. Knowledge of ASP and web technologies is helpful.

Creating a Dynamic Website with PHP and MySQL

This course takes the student through all of the steps to build a product website for a business, using open-source tools that are robust, reliable and free. Students will learn how to set up a database, build forms to maintain contents, and build interactive pages that make it easy for their customers to find their products.

The code and techniques used here are equally useful for companies with many products, as well as artisans, craftspeople, small retailers, and others with just a few products. They can also be used to create dynamic websites allowing user logins, personalization, processing of forms and email, and much more.

Prerequisites: Must have some experiences in web design with HTML, or be familiar with web page design in FrontPage, Dreamweaver or similar application.

Introduction to SQL - Basics
