Gas Pipeline Mechanic Training Program
Train for high-paying union jobs in just 7 weeks!
This hands-on program prepares students for entry-level employment in the natural gas industry. The jobs available in the Bucks County region are high-paying union jobs. Students will learn how to perform tasks needed to install and maintain pipelines for natural gas distribution systems, which provide natural gas service to residential, commercial and industrial customers. Program graduates are in high demand by employers in the gas industry, and job placement with our company partners has been very successful.
This program was created by PECO in partnership with the Collegiate Consortium for Workforce and Economic Development to meet the increased regional demand for skilled labor in the natural gas distribution industry and to bolster the local gas distribution mechanic workforce.
Employment of Gas Distribution Line Mechanics is closely aligned with three Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry’s High Demand Occupations. They are listed as Pipe and Steam Fitter, Pipe Layers, and Installations, Maintenance and Repair Worker.
Gas Distribution Line Mechanics are responsible for the installation and maintenance of natural gas distribution systems, which provide natural gas service to residential, commercial and industrial customers. Successful Line Mechanics must be physically fit, hardworking, and able to follow instructions rapidly and proficiently. Mechanics can expect to work on many different sites doing a variety of jobs. Having a diverse skill set and being able to communicate with people effectively, is important.

Operator Qualification Tasks

OQ is a regulation of the Office of Pipeline Safety of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). It requires pipeline operators to develop and maintain a written qualification program for individuals performing covered tasks on pipeline facilities. The intent of this qualification is to ensure a qualified workforce and to reduce the probability and consequence of incidents caused by human error.
During this 12-hour module, students will be instructed on all topics of State CDL Manual to prepare to pass the PA State Air Brakes, General Knowledge, and Combination Vehicle multiple choice tests.
