| OnlineYour instructor will hold the orientation online using self-paced tools, email and/or discussions. (A self-paced orientation does NOT mean the entire course is self-paced.) You should plan to access your online course no later than the first day of the session. Failure to do so may jeopardize your grade. OtherYour instructor will be handling orientation as indicated below. Other Orientation Information Orientation for Biol 101 - E11 will be self-paced ONLINE. NO face-to-face orientation meeting will be required.
Orientation is mandatory, and MUST be completed ASAP once you have access to this course in Canvas! Other Information about the Course |
All classes, including labs will be online. If you would like to meet f2f, I will be available for appointments as necessary. The first day of the semester is OUR first day of class! You will have components due the first week of class.
Remember online courses do require a large amount of discipline on your part. Face-to-face biol 101 courses meet for four hours and forty minutes per week. Students are then recommended to double that time for studying and doing homework outside of class. Therefore to be successful in this online version of the class I recommend at least 15 hours of work per week for class. You must be organized and disciplined in your scheduled times of study to succeed in this course! I will always be there to help you succeed in the class. Do not hesitate to email me at anytime for help related to the class.
Exams, Quizzes, Labs, and Homework Assignments will all be online components, excluding/except the Final Exam. The Final Exam will be taken at one of the three campus' tutoring centers though, and will require a security code that I will provide!!! This is the only component that will need to be taken or completed at the testing center. The Final will be available to take over a couple of days.
You are only required to purchase one textbook, the customized version of Inquiry into Life (by Mader - 13th ed.), and the Connect Plus access code. The BCCC bookstore has the required textbook with Connect listed as follows: INQUIRY INTO LIFE BIOL 101 W/Connect
ISBN: 9780077835132 (MADER (COMES IN OPTION #3)). (If you are going to take Biol 101 and 102 I would purchase the larger book though.) You are not required to purchase a lab book, as all of our labs are virtual labs. You are REQUIRED to purchase the Connect Plus component though! All Homework Assignments and Assessments (i.e. Exams and Quizzes), other than the virtual labs, will be in Connect only! The Labs are in Canvas. |
