Accessing Your Course
Canvas (by Instructure)
Your course is using Canvas. If you are new to Canvas, please visit the
Canvas Basics course space
to become familiar with Canvas prior to the start of your course. No login is required to
access this space.
You will be able to login to Canvas about two weeks prior to the start of your class.
However, your course becomes available as of 1 AM on the official course
Log in to your Canvas course space at
- Username: Your username is the same for every system at Bucks.
- Password: your Bucks Network password (used to log into any Bucks campus computer or to access any Bucks Library online database from off campus.)
If you do not know your Bucks Username, go to WebAdvisor.
Select Account information (upper right hand corner of the screen) then select What's My User ID? and follow
the prompts. You will need to provide your last name AND either your 7 digit student ID number OR your
social security #. Your Bucks username will display on the screen.
Note: Students are uploaded to Canvas several times a day. If you registered late, you won't be
able to access Canvas until the next upload takes place.

While you may purchase your books and other course materials from the provider of your choice (using the
ISBN number available through the course's academic department
where applicable to ensure the correct version), both the campus bookstore
and our online bookstore,
guarantee that they stock the correct version for your course.

Other Information about the Course
Plan a minimum of 6 to 9 hours per week for your coursework. While eLearning courses provide flexibility in time, geography, and travel, the work required for successful completion is identical to that for the face-to-face course. Students are expected to begin the course work on the first day of classes.
To be successful in this course you will need to read the text, read supplemental information provided by the instructor for each chapter, ask questions about concepts, as well as answer questions and discuss concepts on the discussion board. You should plan to post on the discussion boards and complete assignments on a WEEKLY basis. Exams are given online.
This class covers a wide range of material in a relatively short time span, but your classmates and instructor are there to support you on the way. Your instructor will provide specific instructions to aid you in mastering the course material, and act as a guide to facilitate your understanding of that material.
The topics we will cover include the following: History of abnormal behavior; DSM-IV classifications for anxiety disorders, mood/affective disorders, dissociative disorders, schizophrenic disorders, personality disorders, substance abuse disorders, sexual and gender identity disorders, childhood and adolescent disorders, mental retardation, and cognitive disorders; Theories of abnormal behavior such as psychodynamic, behavioral, cognitive, organic, biochemical, family systems, reactive and diathesis; Treatments like psychoanalysis. behavioral psychotherapy, cognitive psychotherapy, psychopharmacology, family psychotherapy, and eclectic psychotherapy.
The exams are designed to assess your understanding of course material beyond simple memorization. In general, they contain questions which require you to apply what you have learned rather than identify a simple definition. You will need to be self-disciplined enough to keep up with your weekly coursework to prevent falling behind. While I am available to help you through the course, success in the course will rely on your willingness to work and study.
