Provides graduates with knowledge and skills needed for a career in a paramedical profession that requires extensive transcription with word processing. Graduates apply their medical specialty in the following settings: medical care facilities, insurance companies, medical office service, or in entrepreneurial settings at home.

Graduates of this program are able to

  • demonstrate competency in applying correct grammar usage and style when transcribing documents from dictation that uses medical terminology;
  • provide word processing support by using software applications that require competency in basic to advanced functions;
  • define medical terms and abbreviations; and
  • select the correct format for dictated reports.
