Computer Application Development

OCCUPATIONAL MAJOR
Curriculum Code No. 2134

This major is primarily designed for job preparedness. Students who are considering transferring to a four-year college should be aware that decisions on transferability on courses are made by the four-year colleges and differ from school to school. Students should contact the Transfer Services Office early in their academic program to determine which courses will transfer to the college of their choice.

This associate degree major qualifies graduates to compete for entry-level positions in the field of application development for microcomputers. Major requirements can be met in a two-year period of full-time study. Graduates might be employed in positions with job titles such as applicatio n developer, software developer, or database developer. By program completion, the minimum skills a graduate would acquire are:

  • ability to program in a micro-oriented language.
  • ability to search in appropriate locations for answers to questions that have never been asked before.
  • ability to configure a commercial database for a particular user's needs.
  • knowledge of basic business procedures as they pertain to computers
  • ability to present one's thoughts effectively in both oral and written communication.
  • in-depth knowledge of at least one currently popular operating system.

Recommended Semester Sequence
