Bucks Hosts Swinging Tribute to Vegas Stars Sept. 23
James Gafgen and the All Star Big Band Orchestra perform ‘Legends of Las Vegas’ to benefit Piazza Nuova Lodge and college scholarships
Bucks County Community College invites the public to a swinging good time when James Gafgen performs an All Star Big Band Salute to the Legends of Las Vegas at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 23, on the Newtown campus.
Gafgen will amaze the audience as he pays tribute to the greatest legendary singers of Las Vegas. He is backed on stage by the All Star Big Band Orchestra, conducted by Wilbur Wittemann, featuring players from some of the nation’s most acclaimed orchestras.
Gafgen has performed internationally for the past decade as part of headliner act “Your Three Tenors” for several world-class cruise lines including Cunard, Holland America, and Royal Caribbean. He opened for The Three Tenors concert (featuring Luciano Pavarotti, Placido Domingo and Jose Carreras) at Meadowlands Stadium.
Wittemann has conducted bands and performed on trumpet with many world famous musicians and orchestras, including Dizzy Gillespie, Maynard Ferguson, Arturo Sanduval, and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestras. Wittemann is also an orchestra conductor who has led the string sections from the Philadelphia Orchestra, Trenton Symphony Orchestra, and the Philly Pops.
The concert proceeds benefit the Piazza Nuova Lodge of Yardley, PNL C&E Foundation, and the Enrico Fermi Science Endowment Fund at Bucks County Community College. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased online or at the box office, which opens at 2:15 p.m.
The concert takes place in the Kevin and Sima Zlock Performing Arts Center, located inside the Gateway Center Building on the campus of Bucks County Community College, 275 Swamp Rd., Newtown, Pa.
